Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The oldest one I've posted so far is from 2004 ... the newest one is from August 2007 (the Eiffel Tower one).

Is that the real Eiffel Tower?

It was taken on this trip: https://www.machka.net/pbp2007/2007_PBP.htm ... specifically, on this portion of that trip: https://www.machka.net/pbp2007/2007_Pre-PBP_3.htm

I've been to Paris (France) with my bicycle twice now for the Paris-Brest-Paris ... met Rowan, the man who is now my husband, there the first time, and we went back together the second time.

Sabre, the cat in the photo, passed away this past February at the age of 16.5 after living with feline diabetes for 9 years.

The bicycle is a Maruishi ... a Japanese brand, I believe. It was my father's, then mine for a while, and now my cousin's.

November 2008 Century - Wheel Shadow

Actually ... I'm trying to work on my shadow photos. I took one that same day with me in it, and while my bicycle shadow looks slender and lovely ... my shadow looks like a blimp. And ideally I'd like to get a shadow shot of just the bicycle.

This was the top of the Cime de la Bonnette (2802m), but the weather was really sweeping in, hence the dull look to the photo. The whole of the descent was done in freezing rain and sleet!
