Stem Question
I am in the market for a new stem. My Deda bars are 26.0 in diameter but the stem I want has a clamp diameter of 25.8, will this work? Or do I need a stem in which the clamp diameter is 26.0? Thanks for your help!

well, i think it will work but it will put more stress your bars and stem more than normally since there will be less contact.. there will be less contact on the center of the faceplate. this may cause premature wear.
But it will work, i think.. But i wouldn't do it.

Can't find another mfgr who makes the length and angle in a 26mm clamp diameter?
If you really want a stem in the 26.0 size, there are custom framemakers who could make a custom stem for you but of course, it would cost you $$$. I know when I got my Seven, they made a custom Ti stem for it.

My Ritchey WCS stem does not seem to match my Ritchey Pro road bar. The clamp is a bit too small; it does not close 100%: there is a small gap between the stem cap and the stem itself. I have asked this forum about this and received reassuring answers. Maybe the same would apply to your 25.8-26 combo...

You may not think it, but that 0.4mm will make a difference. Maybe not a helluva big difference, but if you go ahead with it, don't be surpirsed if you bars crack or get dented. I'd recommend you either find another stem with a 26mm clamp, another pair of bars with 25.4mm tube, or go to a competant machine shop and have them mill out the clamp area to 26mm.

Shouldn't have a problem. Many people years back mixed these with no problems. About 10 years back 26,0 and 25,8 were the ones sold most.
Also 25,4 and 26.4 were made but no longer made.
Go ahead and try it.
