FU***NG dogs......

I was having a great ride yesterday when suddenly 3 dogs just charged me. pedal mashed like a mofof and just outran em till they lost interest, why is people think it's ok for them to let their dogs run around in the street. maybe one will get nailed next time they go after me...

LowCel 12-19-07 12:21 PM

Don't know how it is where you are but the people around here with problem dogs are generally the ones with nothing to lose.

I used to have a vicious dog chase me at high speeds on my usual rout. At the time (teenage years) I was riding a MTB. I was so scared, that while sprinting away, I seriously pulled my back. That dog would have taken a chunk out of me. Damn dogs. One day they stopped chasing me. I wonder what happened.

My father rode with a 38 for just this reason. One time, a dog got out of the fenced yard and ran him down (this was a dog that went nuts behind the fence anytime someone would go by). My father shot the dog as it was in the air going for an attact. The dog hit the back of the bike but my father stayed upright and did not fall. The rear wheel was bent beyond repair.

The dog ran off squeeling. My father did not even know if he shot the dog or if he was just stunned from hitting the bike. The owner came to our property and confronted my father. It did not go any further. At the time, my father was a body builder and he still had the 38 on him. We did not hear from him again and the best thing was that that dog was killed and we did not have to ride by that property in fear any longer.

I love dogs but would never have one that had any sort of behaviour such as described on this forum frequently.

I absolutely love dogs, I just hate ignorant (or just plain stupid) dog owners.

I agree with the exception of several breeds that should be outlawed.

Sprocket Man 12-19-07 12:45 PM

Glad that none of the dogs made contact with you. Where did this happen?

mgmoore7 12-19-07 12:58 PM

In the Tampa Bay Area. We lived on a 5 acre lot and there were two roads of lots that were 5 acres. Probably about 50 lots or maybe more. Anyway, the road that connected the two roads had one lot that was completely fenced in and they had a few dogs. Everyone had dogs actually and so did we. But one of there dogs would growl and chase up and down the fence line (about 50 yards or more) as we went by. This time, the owner left the gate open.

I just don't understand why anyone would want to have dogs like this. The fact that they had their property completely fenced was admission of having agressive dogs. Of course, I know the answer to this but still.

There is no such thing as "agressive dog breeds". Ive seen more pit bulls and dobermans that are mild natured than agressive... Now if something does go wrong and one of those breeds attacks they are strong and will take you down...

Taking out a pistol and shooting a dog... thats behind you... while riding a bike is careless. You could just as easly kill another human being doing that as kill the dog.

I hate dogs and always tease mine. We have a retriever who will fetch a ball all day for hours on end. I hate it when the slobbery tennis balls end up next to me when I'm laying on the couch. So today I took a clear glass cover and put it over his ball. I laughed my ***** off watching him try to get it out. Anywho I have mase so if a dog chased me I'd just mase the crap out of it and probably punch it a few times. P.S. I'm crazy enough to try it.

It's not the breed that should be outlawed, it's the owners. And people that make ignorant statements like yours.

While I agree that in most cases the dog breeds that mention are harmless, it cannot be denied that they have a much higher rate of attacks than most breeds. I think they are somewhat like a timebomb just waiting to go off. Hopefully they never will but the facts lead to a different conclusion in some cases.

Did you read the post? The dog was shot while in mid-air lunging to attact. That was very obvious by the bent up wheel. If he just turned to shoot before the dog was very close and hit the dog, he would have never hit the wheel. Hitting another human would not have even been remotely possible in this situation. It is a rural area and even two cars passing by was not that common, much less anyone being around. Besides, I think his more than 30 years as a policeman gave him an edge over the average citizen in being able to handle a gun safely.

Your right, it is the owners of such dogs that should be jailed for continuing to allow the breed to continue to exist.

mgmoore7 12-19-07 01:50 PM

How about some facts:

"Some breed information was reported for all 27 attacks. As in recent years, Rottweilers were the most
commonly reported breed involved in fatal attacks, followed by pit bull-type dogs
(Table 1). Together, these
2 breeds were involved in approximately 60% of human deaths."

Dogs run. Dogs chase. Owners let them do it uncontrolled. Take you problem to the source.

Of course I agree but we know the owners don't often help with the situation. Also, unfortunately, often the damage has been done before there is a chance for that.

Do you have any experience with dogs? From your posts, I would say you don't. Dogs have been bred for certain traits throughout history, but it is people who choose to exploit those traits. Just because a dog is capable of certain things does not mean it should be destroyed. I have and have had different "aggressive breed" dogs and they have been absolutely harmless and wonderful pets.

People, like you, are the ones that should be prevented from breeding. Maybe your parents should be jailed as well.

Exactly. Finally, someone is making some sense.
