Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I am new to cycling and this is a thread to get your input on a variety of things that I'm looking to purchase but simply don't have the expertise to research all of the options. I'm generally looking for items that are on the higher-end of things that are going to last. So here're goes.

Indoor trainer...
Cyclocomputer w/ HR and Cadence...
Multi-tool...
Cleaner for chain/gears...
Jacket for cooler mornings/evenings (I'm in CA so "cold" would be like 50 degrees F)...
Helmet for protection

Anything else you think I might need. My goals are cycling for fitness and enjoyment, and unlikely to encompass racing at this point. I recently purchased a Scott CR1 pro and am just in love with it. I'm about to get some Look Keo Sprint pedals for it and swapped out the seat for a Fizik Aliante which I like so far.

Thanks for your help in advance and Merry Christmas!!

Brian

Bikes: Cannondale CAAD7

Indoor trainer: 1up or cyclops fluid 2 (I hear good things about those two often)

Jacket: I've learned that a vest is better than a jacket (at least for me), I recently bought a capo forma thermal vest and love it

I think you might find more info if you just did a search though

Computer: only way to go is Garmin Edge 305 or their new one coming out. It's slick.

Multi-tool: anything by topeak is pretty good

Chain cleaner: anything with the self-contained doohicky that the chain rides through. Gives it a bath and scrubs it clean in one step. Park tools makes a nice one.

Helmet: Gyro Atmos, of course. This is one area where you can get a $20 lid, lasts as long, and be as protected as the $150 Atmos. But, since you're in California, you gotta look cool. Make sure it matches you bike and Sidi shoes!
