Christmas Day: Ride Report
Merry Christmas all, and hope you're having a good one. Much joy and congrats to those who got new bikes today! I got what I wanted - I gave myself a ride on the coast road this morning. Though I still caught $#!t for not leaving a note at home. "I'm going riding." Sheesh, what do they expect?!
I did an out-n-back on the coast road, 20 smiles roundtrip. 58F when I started out. Quartering tailwind on the out, quartering headwind on the return. I was thinking of a way to do 15 out and 5 back in the wind but that's not practical (although the math still works). Anyway, the weather said winds of 15 to 20.
Here's "power plant" beach looking south, just south of Carlsbad.
Light traffic (as I'd expect) and only a few walkers/runners.
Here's "power plant" beach looking north...
At this point I thought I'd try my first moving photo, taken while riding, I put the chest strap of my Camelback through the belt loop of the camera pouch (along w/ neck strap in case I drop it) and had quick access.
Carlsbad "cliffs beach" JNO Airport Rd...
Ah, and new pavement in this area too sooo nice to ride on. (BTW, beware of huge potholls and bad pavement in Leucadia)
In a daring move...
Fellow cyclist were all going north as I was going south. Guess I was the only dummy who setup to have a headwind on the return.
Just south of Encinitas, out of town. You can squint and see the point of La Jolla in the distance...
Here's 101 & D Street in Encinitas on the return...
No spills, no drama. Back home for a nice shower and breakfast.
See 'ya!

Looks like you had a decent ride.
My ride report is as follows...
Sitting here typing, sipping whiskey, and watching it snow.

I had a great ride this morning too. The roads were bare of cars and I did see several cyclists. Actually road with a nice guy and talked for a few miles till we hit a road where we were heading in opposite directions. The weather was clear and sunny today, 52 when I began and 62 when I finished. It was so quiet without all the cars driving by. Maybe the best day of the year for a ride.
36 miles in 2hrs 8 min.
Merry Christmas to all of you and your family's.

45 miles. Three hours between 7 and 10AM. It felt like winter.
I walked down the steep part of my hill. I crashed on the black ice runoff trying to ride down it yesterday. Pcad never crashes on the same icy spot on two consecutive days, he's far too crafty for that.

I took out my new mountain bike for a 10 mile ride in 20F temps with a nice wind and 3-12 inches of snow.
One of the hardest rides of the year and it took 90 mins. egads!
But it was fun as heck. Froze my goatee.

I made it from Homestead Fl to Fairchild Tropical Gardens this morning. 42 mile roundtrip. It was the first time I had ridden a bicycle on Old Cutler Road, the start of the good part. I left at 9:30 and was back at 12:30 with a couple of brief stops along the way. One was at gas station for a bearclaw and a Dark Chocolate Snickers. That is a good candybar! Lucky me a gas station was open on Christmas morning!
The trip was totally unplanned. I just went where I wanted to go. _

20 miles to the beach and back. Not like there are any people at the beach though. Windy and in the low 40's

The photo is from 50 miles on Christmas Eve. Christmas Day was 35 minutes trying to sprint up and down two hills. And then I ate a whole bunch of ham, sweet potatoes, fried onions and cookies.

40 min ride at 11am. Nice and cold about 0Cel and nice headwind.
But oh so peaceful and quiet on the roads and truly the best day to ride safely on some major roads.
That's two outdoor rides since Saturday. Hoping for another tomorrow to see how many brave the cold lining up for Boxing day sales up here.
Cheers

WINDY in socal. Rode from Westlake to Woodland Hills and then headed up into the mountains and came back on Mulholland Highway. 63 miles, about 5K climbing. It should be noted that I got back before my wife woke up... https://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/4645100
Ate lunch, opened presents, then did some hill repeats. 4x250ft in 1/2 mile. https://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/4645737
Watched National Treasures : Book of Secrets and am now waiting for dinner...

Austin weather was amazing in the afternoon. 70s and blue sky.
Waited for others to nap and got in 25 miles with a neighbor.
Great day that started early with kids seeing what Santa had gotten them, and then a nice selfish ride.
