Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bikes: yikes, too many

Official Regret Thread

Everyone has a bike that got away. He is mine...

I sob everyday. It all started many years ago I acquired a sweet track bike for my weekend rides on the velodrome in San Jose. I bought it at a bike swap meet for couple of hundred bucks. It was a beautiful Medici. It rode like a dream. I'll never forget those hubs - I think they were SunTour.

I sold her after I ran out of room in my apartment. I pretty much gave away it to a young high schooler who want to go to the next level on the track. I want it back. I am older and have room now. I figure that with interest $125 should be fair. Please come home.

I remember her too.

She was a beauty.

Hey aren't you the guy I crashed out of Cat's Hill Criterium in '87? You know, my friends and I still laugh about that. It was so funny when the ambulance came. I kept the bottom half of your derailer as a souvenier.

I know it is hard to understand. She wasn't a normal bike though - you just wouldn't understand. With therapy it has been reduced to about every three days. Part of my New Year's Resolution is to make it a week without sobbing.

I regret allowing this Centurion Ironman Expert to be stolen.

Yes, but not half as brutal as the get-up you're sporting in that pic.

I was styin' in 1990. Had 3 different girls waiting at the finish...all wanting my Ocean Pacific shirt from 1979. They tore it off me...it was the last I ever saw of it.

Bikes: zilch

I had an early 70s Gitane that my friend and I were rebuilding. It sat in my family's garage for years never touched. We had the frame stripped down and cleaned up ready to be put back together with newer components and such. My father thought it was junk and chucked it one afternoon cleaning out our building.

It was similar to the above pic, but yellow.

Your dad and my mom should get together. She tossed out all my baseball cards from the late 50's through the early 70's. Probably about 10K of them...several shoe boxes. Ouch.

Well, I ended up with a Le Tour. Unfortunately, I gave it to someone when I started driving.

Bikes: rkwaki's porn collection

I sold this last week

Not really a regret, as I've enabled some necessities for this racing season without going into the dog house.
