Performance Shipping -- Not so bad

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Are their prices that aggressive? I find that they have great pricing on some items (picked up the performance ultra bib for $60 yesterday) but for many parts etc. you can find much better deals, even with the 20% off coupons.

I've ordered items from Performance on at least 50 different occasions, and I've NEVER had an in-stock item take longer than 3 days to get to me. I'm a Team Performance member, but regardless, they've always shipped same or next day on every item I've ordered. Now backordered items are a different story. They ship them via some sort of fedex service that actually takes about twice as long as USPS. Took 9 business days to get a water bottle delivered after it left the Performance warehouse.

I ordered a new bike seat and a camelback from Performance last month and it took around 15-16 days to arrive! The price was right though, so oh well.

I put an order in on Tuesday night, and it shipped Thursday. Once it is out of their hands how can you blame them? UPS, Fedex, DHL, USPS, all have their problems. When they say ground, they MEAN ground. I've never had anything come UPS earlier than the estimated date. FEDEX sometimes. I'd rather some items go USPS as they can get it cross country faster, but there's no tracking.

Most companies ship same day if ordered early enough. Performance is a little slower, next day, but nothing to complain about.

Performance and Nashbar are like the Walmart of bicycle stores. You feel guilty shopping there, but sometimes you just have to... for the price. I went to "a" (not "my") LBS the other day. I was handing out fliers for our bike race, and felt guilty (because our team's bike stored is all over the flier and they let me post the flier front and center on their cork board) so I bought a couple of tubes. 20 DOLLARS********************? Uh... I'll take some GU instead...

A lot of bike stores will admit their COST is MORE than Performance ....sells to us.

I just had an issue with Nashbar, I ordered a bunch of parts OVERNIGHT, placed order at 7am and they advertised "SAME DAY SHIPPING" they did nothing with the order for a full 24 hours, before I called THEM to see what was the problem. If I wanted it 2 day, i would have gotten 2 day shipping. You cannot count on Performance or Nashbar, that is the thing. It's a crap shoot, but when it works, it is CHEAP.

Let me say on the converse. I am building my first self assembled bike, and forgot to order like 10 things. I went to MY LBS, and picked them up, they did not charge me. They even lent me their special BB tool.
