Clinchers?
can anyone explain what a clincher wheelset is? and what do the WH mean in "Shimano WH-R550"

Bikes: Waterford 953 RS-22, several Paramounts

I'm pretty sure the "WH" stands for WHeels, since all of Shimano's wheelsets (both tubular and clincher, road and MTB) start with WH.
