Having used some crappy non weight-weenie brakes that have gotten me into trouble more than once, I don't understand why someone would compromise stopping power for such a tiny weight saving.
It really does come down to the fact that there are two types of cyclist. Those that ride their bikes to get fitter and faster, and those who buy bicycles to pose with at the local cafe. I'll take fitness and cycling "ability" over "bling" and fancy bicycle parts any day of the week.

I don't find the Zero-G's stopping power to be suspect [0G-07 Ti].
I also weigh 178 lbs.
Seems to me they'd stop even better for anyone weighing less than I.

Keep in mind these are negative g's, which are much heavier/beefier/stronger than the zero g's. But the point is that these are crazy expensive compared to the regular negative g's, because they are red and "special edition". They do look cool though...

Yeah, that's kind of what I was meaning. I figure the Negative-Gs will stop even better than my Zero Gs, which stop me pretty darn well. I REALLY like the anodized red though!

I descended over a million feet last year with my zero g's. I don't understand why people think that they won't work when needed.

+1 million.

I only descended about 236,000 feet but I never had the first problem with mine stopping me. They slowed me down from speeds approaching 60 mph on several occasions. I'm generally in the 170 - 175 pound range. However, right now I am 185 pounds, I rode with them yesterday down five pretty good downhills, never even gave them a second thought.
I'm using 07 0G's.
I'm using 07 0G's.

. From a cost/performance standpoint, they are silly, as are many weight-weenie things. (of course not as silly as this NERD version). But from a pure-performance standpoint, they work spectacularly well if set up correctly. Are they the best, no. Are they the best from a weight-weenie perspective? probably not... ax lightness, kcnc, etc.

I look at my bike not only as a tool for gaining fitness and speed, but also a project I like to work on and add to with schwag when I can afford it.
I'm sure pcad will corroborate this.
It's fun to upgrade things that don't need it just because you can. Did I NEED to upgrade my Force to Red? No. Did I NEED ceramic bearings in my Mavic Ksyrium ES wheels? Probably not. Did I need Zero-G brakes? Not really. And botto can add his 2 cents about boutique QRs.
I think it's fun to always have something to look forward to other than getting fitter and faster. Cycling, for me is not only a passion, but a hobby and a way of life. [That's why I spend so much time on BFs
]. If you have the money and want to spend it on cycling: go for it. I don't spend money on much else so for me, it's justified. I like to field questions from people who think my bike looks cool, and if I hadn't already bought some 0G-07s and had an extra $666, I might be buying a set of the Red Negative-Gs.
We all have to draw the line somewhere, I suppose.

Those brakes are just too weight-weenie-OCP-over-the-top. It would sap all my energy explaining them to other roadies and defending myself on BF.
Pcad would become even more of a target than he is now.
They are The Schwag however. And the Pull of The Schwag is strong. This item is causing a ripple in the Pcad Time Space Continuum.

Can everyone PLEASE stop hating on zeroG's? I don't own them, but I've NEVER heard a story about, "I was coming down this wicked hill, and an old lady was crossing the street in front of me and I couldn't stop in time. If only I'd had Dura-Ace brakes with the salmon koolstop pads and some nice, somwhat conservative teflon brake cables she would be here to hit you with a handbag today."
The hate is Schwagg related. No one can deny that with a straight face.

Marriage is over rated. My Mom is a divorce attorney. Sadly for Pcad she has repeatedly informed me that in any marital dispute she will be representing Mrs. Pcad. I would have the Zero G's as a consolation prize of course. But the baggage I would carry into the dating scene would swamp that 100 gram weight savings.
