Fulcrum Racing 1 vs Racing Zero
Interesting in getting a pair of Fulcrum wheelsets. Set my eyes on either the Racing 1 or Racing Zero. however, the Fulcrum site didn't really explain the key differences between the 1 vs Zero. Anyone could share the major differences? Which one is more suitable for heavy rider (220lb).
Thank you.

Weight and fancy red spokes as far as I can tell (rim is machined differently to shed some weight with the zero's it seems)... here's the comparison table

As an owner of the Zeros, I have to say that the red is WAY cooler.
In all seriousness however, I can see little difference between the models myself, even under direct comparison. I believe some of the difference lies in the hub bodies; the internals of the Zero and the One are the same, according to the schematic, but the hub bodies themselves are different. Of course, this may simply reflect different finishes and labeling, but it's a good bet, along with rim cross-section differences.

Ive been riding the ones for 6 months or so daily and theyve been worry free. Im heavier than you.. I dont think you can go wrong with either set.

One big difference is obviously the tubular option in the Zeros.
The rest must be little stuff. Maybe the Zero has thinner spokes and aluminum axles or something? Freehub body material? I'm reaching here. I would contact Fulcrum and ask. If there is any weight coming off the rim, I'd recommend sticking with the 1s instead of the Zeros, at your weight. The 1s might just be like a clyde version .

I've owned my Racing One's for a whole season and some. I would have bought the Zero's but that red color was too much! It took away from the beauty of the bike. Also you had limitations with color matching. Imagine them on a blue bike...Yuck! The red turns orange in the sun but indoors it looks cool. Six months later Fulcrum announced in Vegas they would come out with black Zero's with red spokes. The best of both. Oh well if anyone wants to trade me my black One's for their Black Zero's I'd be happy to do so
PS. The only difference is more machining of the rims to reduce gram count. That's it.

The differences are as follows:
There is additional machining done to the rim and hub shell to shed weight. If you look at the spokes, the bladed section begins much closer to the rim on the RZero than it does on the R1. This is, again, to shave weight.
The ride of the Zeros should be a little less harsh that the R1 can be. This is based on feedback from QuickStep to Fulcrum. That is why they made the changes and introduced the RZero.
The internals are the same.

How are they in terms of aero-ness?
More or less or blah compared to the aero of Mavic Ksyrium ES/SL Premium?

Machining rims to save weight = less aero
Longer blades = more aero
I don't think there'd be much difference.

None. Just curious. I have a 1 year old set of R1 in silver that have had the crap beat out of them. I lent them to a team mate who was going to Belgium to race for a Continental team there for 6 weeks. They are still solid.
When you buy them, talk to the dealer and check if the stock the replacement parts. It's nice that you can swap out every part of you ever crash them (Campagnolo internals).
Enjoy.

Is there a rider weight limit on the Zeros? I am about 5'10 and weigh 177lbs and thinking about picking up a set of Zeros. If they claim to be stiffer than the Mavic Ksyrium ES, then it should be fine right?

No weight limit whatsoever. Both the RZero and the R1 are great wheels for clydes, but, at you weight, you shouldn't even be concerned about it.

I have the new '08 Ksyrium SL premiums and I've owned a set of Zeros (see pics above). The Zeros are noticeably stiffer, look better and ride like a dream. I also think they are more aerodynamic.
I just bought a set of black/red Fulcrum Zeros (they are available now from most retailers). They are scheduled to be here on the 18th. I got them for the PF RS2 frame, but when I get them I'll put them on the Bottecchia first and take a few pics.
I'm thinking about a matching Fulcrum Torq RS crankset as well for that frame.
