What is the definition of a roadie?
I have two road bikes. I like to ride in the open country. In a good week I manage 100 miles. I average only 12 - 14 miles per hour. Do I qualify as a roadie? What makes a person a roadie?

If you wave at others you are NOT a roadie.
If you don't shave your legs you are NOT a roadie
If you're jersey and shorts do not match your bike paint scheme, you are NOT a roadie.
_______
I wave at people, I do not shave my legs and my jersey does NOT match my bike paint...but I consider myself a roadie.
Just ride yer damn bike and don't worry about it.

Going 12 to 14 mph is pretty slow. Is that on hilly country? Road bikes riders usually average higher than that.

If you like being a roadie, call yourself a roadie. Chances are, no one else cares.

I wave
I wear MTB shoes
jersey's don't match my bike AT ALL (I have full cannondale kit and ride a Giant)
I can't believe the dirty looks i've gotten from some of the roadies around here when I wave and say good morning on my daily loop.

All that's left is to get you registered. Send the $50 registration fee to me, and I'll take care of it. Then you'll be an official roadie!

Guess I don't qualify as a roadie either.

Well, you do have two road bikes, TwoBikes. Maybe you should find a way to better emphasize the numeric quality of the amount of bicycles that you own. Then people would know that you owned not one but TWO road bikes, and that you are a roadie.

Ah, be careful here! What KIND of 'road' bikes? Real "lighter than a fart" road bikes or sport/touring road bikes? or touring bikes? or some form of...hybrid, maybe a road frame with a flat handlebar....hmmmm be careful.

A roadie is a person who rides a "road bicycle" of some sort on the paved road. That's it ... distance or waving or speed or clothing and all that have nothing to do with it.

There's a 'storm' on in Halifax today, everyone's gone home, and the IT guys have the server shut down and I'm stuck here cause I have to wait for my wife...I have nothing to do.

I may ride on the road and I may have a couple of road bikes. But, now I realize that in the words of Wayne and Garth, "I am not worthy! I am not worthy!"

To my knowledge* they only started calling them "Road Bikes" after mountain bikes became popular. Before then you just had a bike. If it had drop bars, it was a "racer". Not that mine have seen any racing...

I'd say the urge to drop other cyclists is important too, but at 12 - 14 mph I doubt you drop many.

Yep, and now that they have disc golf, they had to invent the term "ball golf."

No, after working in customer service in the wireless industry for several years (god i'm glad I don't do that anymore) I certainly know a dirty look when I see one. Doesn't bother me so much, but after riding/racing MTB's for several years, a small part of me misses the camaraderie between MTBers.

Have to admit that the friendliness amongst mountain bikers is something I do miss.

Good lord! I had to "google" to discover that "Disc Golf" is actually a recognised activity. Little wonder that I'd never heard of it...
