Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Otters Suck!!!!!!!

Today I was going for my morning ride next to a canal bordering a Federal wildlife preserve. As I'm going along I see the grass moving along the side of the road. At first I thought it was a gator going from one canal to another. All of a sudden three otters come barreling across the road. Well I did a Florida version of Lance riding across the field saying "oh s, oh s, oh s". When I finally able to stop all I could think about was that insurance company ad with the squirrels making the car crash. I can see those otters now giving each other high 5's in the weeds

you shoulda just hit them. its their fault for recklessly getting in the road. If a car pulled out in front of you and you hit it, who's fault would it be? the car's. cars/otters, it makes no difference. Just make sure that you hit it straight on, or you will crash, as otters can be kinda big.

HUH, Phatman?

I'd crash if I hit a gerbil...I sure as heck crash if I ran into an otter...head on, or not!

Not only would you crash, but the Otters would probably kick your rear end while you were laying there........

Last weekend I was training up at my 2nd house in the moutains of West VA. There is a highway I train on and while doing a long section that is going up and over a mountain I was climbing along trying to keep my thighs from exploding and next to me is a small deer pacing me. As I am watching the deer on my right waiting to see if it's going to cross in front of me a car is is driving up on my left. Of course I am wondering if now the deer is going to cross in front of me and into the path of the car. All ended up fine as my "pace deer" decided to go right and left the scene and I went back to the boredom of climbing and waiting for my legs to explode.

It seems that I can’t define if you are being sarcastic or not. Are you insane? You are actually referring to the animals in the manner of which you would refer a human being. Do you think that animals run out on the road just to cause an accident? You are actually accusing an animal of “recklessly getting in the road”, that HUMANS build in the way of their natural habitat.

You thought it might be a gator? I think I would be thankful it was a otter. No offense but I'm glad I don't live in florida Worse I ever run into is a snake on the trails.

Yeah, gators suck too, they're worse on the mtb though. Generally gators once they see you go the other way. These otters just freaked me out because they were 6 inches off my front wheel and determined to get to the other side of the street. That reminds me of a joke: why did the otter cross the road?

Since I've been reading Dave Barry for many years, I'm always on the lookout for interesting band names. I think that EXPLODING THIGHS would be an excellent name for a punk rock band.
