Noisy middle ring on Ultegra triple
I'm running brand new full ultegra 10 spd triple group on a road bike that I recently built.
The only issue I have is the middle ring is quite noisy. The noise sounded like the rear derailleur was always out of adjustment. The noise does not occur when the small or large chainrings are engaged. I replaced the Ultegra 39t middle ring with an FSA middle ring and the noise was still there. Finally, I replaced the FSA middle ring with an inner double ring (39t) that is not ramped or pinned. Granted, the granny to middle ring shifting action is not as quick as it used to be, but pedaling in the middle ring is now smooth and quiet.
Is this an issue with middle triple rings that are ramped and pinned?
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Thanks.

It probably just has to wear in a bit. Ride it for a bit and let the chain wear off all the machining burrs and it'll probably sound whisper quiet in no time. I had to do with with a new Ultegra cassette. It was kinda noisy to start out, but after a couple rides, it is quiet now. You might want to lube your chain a bit with your new ring on the bike to get some lube on the teeth of the ring. This will help as well.

Have you tried trimming the FD? Not the full shift, just a nudge or one click in either direction should take care of it.
I have an Ultegra triple, ramped and pinned and all that, and it's like butter...

is your chain rubbing on the FD in the middle ring? if the adjustments are dialed in correctly there shouldn't be any rub.

Yeah, the front derailleur is trimmed out perfectly. It's definitely the chainring. If I immediately switch to a non-pinned/ramped 39t ring, the noise goes away. I'm glad to hear your crank is working as it should.
I'll try Brian Ratliff's idea and use some extra chain lube (along with some patience).
Thanks for the help, guys.
