pinarello made in the orient?
Other than the Paris and the Prince I heard that the FP1-FP5 and such were made in the orient, is this true? I mean i'd believe it, but kinda takes away from the cool factor imo
|
But the Orient is so exotic.

I believe you mean "Asia."
Go here and scroll down to "Pinarello":

Some frames are now made in Taiwan, including the aluminum Galileo. I haven't been able to confirm this, but apparently the carbon frames are made in Asia then shipped to Italy for painting and assembly. |
So are many (if not most) Orbeas, Treks, BMCs, Bianchis, Giants, Cervelos to name but a few.
What is so cool about EU manufacturing? Never really understood that. |
Wow, this thread title is from the '80s.

****in'aye i was quoting the guy from the bike store jesus christ
made in asia, you guys happy. |
I would be surprised if even the Paris and the Prince were made in Italy.
|
I'm not shocked and I'm not saying that an asian product isn't any good but i sell a lot of chinese products (camera equipment) at my work and do notice a difference in quality between the asian stuff and the italian american or even japanese stuff. I guess as long as the companies are very serious about inspecting the product they import then its totally fine.

Mister Pinarello in one of my Road Bike Actions says that the CF frames are made in Asia. He says that would beat trying to set up a "clean room" and deal with toxic whatevers in Italy.
They are made in the same factory as the Intense road frames, at least that's what I heard at Interbike a few years ago. Just no squiggly tubes. cdr |

It has nothing to do with italian pixie dust it has everything to do with things being hand made in small batches by a small company. I don't care if it's italy, france, america, canada its the size of the batchs and the amount they are required to make per day that dictate the quality to me.
As far as setting up a clean room in italy being an issue as far as i know a HUGE amount of italian companies go totally under the government radar in that country. |
I mean it does make sense that these companies import carbon fiber frames though because i think those are alot harder to produce than metal frames.
|
Just FYI, Orient means east, just as Occident means west.
Oriental? Rugs? |
There seems to be some kind of charm in having an Italian bike built in Italy. I understand cost-cutting etc, but maybe the higher end frames should continue to built in Italy, not because the foreign (to Italy) countries cant built to the same level of quality (may be they can, maybe they cant - I dont know) but purely from a marketing point people of higher end bikes would at least like to think the made-in_italy stuff is of a higher standard.
Heck, I wuoldn't want Ferarris to be made in any place other than Italy. |

I think the made in Italy expectation cames from the price. Easier to rationalize frames worth $2k, $3k or certainly $4k USD if it's made by "yand" in Italy vs made for $50 in China by cheap ass labor with no labor rights or environmental regulations.
Are they really even painted in Italy? I'd be surprised. Yes I've seen the video, the guy didn't bother to put on a mask which to me means he doesn't actually paint often....just when the camera is on. |
A person is Asian. A rug is Oriental. Why can't a bike be Oriental? It sure as h3ll isn't made in Russia.
