Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New Fizik Arione Saddle w/ Question

Hi guys, I just got a Fizik Arione flex wing saddle and took it out for a 40 mil ride this morning. The first 20 went well but after that, it became quite a pain and i found myself having to stand up every few minutes to ease the pain... Do yall think I just need to break it in or is it just not going to work for me and I should move on to something else? Ive read such good things about this saddle and was expecting a really good ride but have been left a little dissapointed. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

Thanks
Richard

I had the same issue with my arione, pressing too much on the soft tissue of my 'taint. I sent it back, got a Flite Gel Flow, and have loved it.

The Arione is a narrow saddle. If you have wide hips, it may not work for you.

I've been using my buddies, testing it out before i buy it and i really like it and have no problems with it pushing on my taint but feel a little bit of aching on my thigh but i'm wondering if thats from bad adjustment.

Even though the Arione has good reviews, it doesn't mean that it will be great for everyone. Seems like you need a new saddle or better bibs/shorts.

In my experience the Arione needs to be set up to perfectly match your position on the bike.

So, you have to spend some time playing with the setback and the angle of the saddle.

But IMHO it's worth the effort. After you get it dialed in, the Arione's length gives you many seating options...

If you don't mind, how would I go about adjusting this properly? Would the LBS be able to help me out or just my own tinkering?

like most aspects of bike fit, the LBS will can only get you in the ball park--the ultimate/final adjustments are entirely up to you.

i've set up my three arione's on the trainer or on a long ride. i just kept a hex wrench handy and tried to keep track of the positions that made the saddle feel better or worse.
