Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Giro Helmet problem...

I have a Giro Pneumo helmet I bought last spring and in November I noticed that the adjuster inside the helmet was broken. I emailed Giro's customer service about it and never received a response. Since then, I've emailed a couple more times with no response.

Has anyone else had this bad of service from this company? I basically asked them if I need to purchase a new one from them, or a LBS or where? Does anyone here know where I can buy a replacement?

Thanks,

Ray

Take it back to your LBS, and see if they will warranty it. Sounds like it should still be under their 1yr warranty. Plead a good case, and they will probably take care of you.

+1 - they deal primarily through their distribution channel - even for warranty issues. I have received reponses from them, but that was in reference to their crash replacment program. In the end they still sent me to an LBS.

The headband strap on one of my old Giros broke a while back - probably at about three years old. Folks at P store said they'd never seen one break like that before. I'm probably on my fourth of fifth Giro helmet and it only happened once so I'll forgive them this once.

Usually they are pretty good about warranty and stuff, if email isn't working give them a call. You never know if your message, or theirs is getting stuck in spam filter or something like that somewhere along the way. Or, just go to your LBS and I'm sure they can take care of you. If it's a replaceable peice they'll usually send out a new one right away, if not but the helmet is still under warranty then you can often get a replacement helmet right off the shop floor if you have a good LBS.

Don't buy a new helmet. There is a replacement part and can be had for $14 and change. Mine broke recently. My LBS had this seen this problem often enough that they orderd several to have on hand. Tell your LBS that the part is available in case they are not aware and I am sure they can order it for you. Cheers.

I took my helmet back to my LBS and put a new adjuster in it for free. They were really good about it and I appreciated it. I just wish Giro would have at least responded and told me thats what I should do. It just seems like after these companies get your money thats all they care about. I don't know if they realize I'll need a new helmet sooner or later and this experience with their LACK of customer service will definitely be a factor in my next purchase.

Thanks for everyones help in the matter. You guys are great.

Thanks again,

Ray

I've had some giro problems myself. I ordered a new Ionos from my shop, and when I got it the shell was separated, so I sent it back. The next one came with the same problem. I'm still waiting on the third helmet, so here's hoping that it's not junk like the other two
