Best cycling compliments?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Best cycling compliments?

In your opinion what is the best compliment you can give another cyclist? I always thought calling someone an 'animal' was right up there. I also use the word 'gun' a lot too (although i've been using that one since 1992 and it may be time to let it go..).

Any other good one liners to pay a fellow cyclist the respect he deserves? Give me some new options.

"You're smooth"

not legs. riding style. ask any racer: the best wheel to be on is the smooth, consistent one.

"strong"
"you wanna back off a little bit"
"wait for me at the top of the hill"
"my spleen!"

-1 on "nice ass"

"you ride quite fast" from my brother, an ex-junior national champion and general racing snake, to this clydesdale rider. He'd moved to, and started cycling in, London without telling me - gotta love disfunctional families

I had someone tell me I was really strong... after I had killed myself trying to keep up in a fast group ride where I was over my head, and proceeded to get dropped. She hung back for me, and was providing me with a draft... She said it at least twice - I was confused. If I was "strong" I wouldn't be off the back!

When I got in better shape, I was once told that I was fast... I had managed to successfully suck wheel on a fast group ride (faster than the first one I mentioned). Several riders got dropped, I hung on. Fast? No, I wasn't one of the animals driving the pace. Faster than I look, I guess - I look pretty dorky.

I would much rather be told that I was smooth. But I'm not, so I haven't.

...and I use "animal" or "monster" a lot. "You're an animal" or "monster pull", etc.

I have a hard time giving compliments and I tend to mumble while doing it so that + the wind means most people never hear it anyway.

Nice pull - I hardly had to pedal. ..

+1 on smooth, one of the best compliments I have received. This can be easily achieved by spending many hours on a set of rollers!

I haven't used this one with cyclists, but I have used it with basketball players: "I hope I'm that good when I'm your age. Of course I'll have to get a lot better between now and then."
