Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

So I had this dream last night and LeMond is in it

I had this strange dream I was at some kind of large bike show. Kind of like Interbike, but open to the public. It was actually all public with little to no industry traffic.

I was walking in when I got close to a test ride area. There were people streaming in and out of the building on test rides.

One rider was coming up behind me kind of slowly and staring down at the front end of his bike. It was a crazy nuevo-retro contraption that looked like a nasty marriage of something from Trek and the North American Handmade Bike show. It was cruiser like, had nice wooden rack, big fenders, but some sort of wicked drive system that used a lot of internal gearing on the rear and some sort of belt drive. (remember this is a dream)

Dude riding it looks up. It's Greg LeMond. I do a subtle head bob acknowledgement and slide out a, "hey Greg. How's it going? So what the hell is that thing?"

He responds with a sort of "I'm not sure, but isn't it awesome. Look at all the stuff they tried out on here" kind of response as he gets off the bike pointing at stuff.

We end up hanging out throughout the show and trading lots of quips about equipment, design, the industry and markets, Freds, etc.

Really F'n wierd dream. I didn't wake up happy I woke up like, "WTF was that all about??!!"

And by the way, what the heck did you eat before bed last night that brought all that on?

Possible man crush and your subsequent denial.

For my money, LeMond is the best road racer America has produced. (Not that I actually dream about the guy).

I had a dream a couple of nights ago and in mine Lemond wasn't in it. I had this dream where I was on some sort of group ride into a forest/park and I was riding my back-up bike, a 2002 Lemond Zurich, and we stopped at some sort of field house. Then my bike vanished. I was running around in cleats looking for it and getting pretty angry. Suddenly I realized it was just a dream and stopped worrying.

Yeah, I had a dream that my family hosted Jan Ullrich and Gabi in Austin. I almost told Kevin Livingston about it at a party two nights later

I'm still not sure what it meant. I almost feel like I was searching for his approval. Weird.

It was modern day LeMond as well. The beer gut was exagerated in the dream as well.

Why wasn't it Hampsten...? WTF!

For some reason I think if I had a dream about Fignon it would include me beating him senseless.

To me as a kid he was an 80's hate image for me. I didn't understand the ponytail, the Lennon glasses. He was like a mix between the Soviet opponent in the Rocky movie and the guy in Money Pit that tries to put the moves on Tom Hanks's character's wife.

Maybe it was the headband that always got to me. ...or the whining.....

I wouldn't worry. Unless, of course, Gregory wasn't riding in the nude. In that case, this wouldn't be a "bike stuff related dream that happened to have LeMond in it", but rather a "LeMond fantasy that for some bizarre reason involved bike related stuff". Which is very disturbing indeed.
