Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Dealing with freds (and sub-freds)

I figured that the Road Nazis needed their own place to trade notes about this topic after that stupid 'dealing with elitists' thread. And who knows where this thread could take us?

Oh the places we'll go!

See, I think:

Elitists RULE

Freds RULE

But nothing rules more than the eternal Road Nazi/Elitist vs. Fred Struggle.

True Freds don't care, you can't have a race if one side doesn't care.

My 3 year old son rides a Trek Jet-12. The other day I installed a "Bell" bell on his bike that made him very happy. However that's the only gear he has to date. Have I be-Fred my son?

I figure a Fred is a pot bellied dude with a $2K + racing bike and a Discovery jersey. Sub-Freds are all those people you see on the bike paths on cheaper bikes of all description.

I have a very slight beer belly and bib shorts on underneath my button down shirt and trousers right now. I'm a closet-Fred

Who is this person of whom you speak? And, more importantly, is said person a Fred?

I predict a 5 page thread, minimum, once everyone has had a chance to get to work.

What do you call the guys on 4k bikes and who only run deep section carbon tubies? They're fast enough to keep up with the racers on the flats and some can even climb.

PCad, I hate to tell you this, but while everyone else looks like they are cruising, you look like you are at the edge and beyond... I am sure you are scaring them - if that isn't a maniac expression, I have never seen one.

And what is with the pink visor?!

little bittie is botto. Small in stature and with a large chip (Chipcom) on his diminutive shoulder. He is a Fred and the worst kind as he thinks he's got game.
