Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

2001 Klein Quantum Race

Anybody have any thoughts on this bike? It's Ultegra equipped. Looking to purchase for ~1K is this a good deal? I believe it sold new for $1600. I'm a novice rider, but decided to buy something that would last and I hear Klein are pretty nice bikes.

I own one..You get to ride it..It is responsive. Some do not like aluminum. I rode other aluminum bikdes-Cannondale.That I did not like..Some think aluminum too stiff. Not my Klein. Klein's designers say its geometry absorbs shock. I believe that.
I bought it new. Wished I had payed that price. I like it. Great componetry. Still would not buy a bike without riding it. Beautiful paint job. I don't regret it..Sometimes a Litespeed catches my eye.. Still have yet to ride one. Think maybe should have. Should decide are you a steel, aluminum person.

Theres a guy in my club who owns one. I usually only see it from behind though as he pulls away in the distance. Seriously though, I own a Klein Quantum and really like it. IMO, the bike is worth the asking price, but ride it first. What works for me won't necessarily work for you. Could be an awesome ride for you if it does though.

Good Luck

Jim

A guy around here was selling his 1999 Klein Quantum Pro for $700 (right before Trek bought out Klein). It had somewhere between 12 to 15k miles on it. I test rode it and everything, BEAUTIFUL bike. Full Ultegra, carbon fork etc..

He had crashed it once so it had some blemishes. In the end I just ordered a Fuji Team from the LBS... but the paint job on the Klein was just amazing (orangish yellowish redish type hue).

Thanks to all for your input. I decided to get the Klein, from the description it's practically new with Ultegra upgrades. I'm just a novice so it may be overkill, but hopefully this will be my last bike purchase for sometime. It shipped Monday so hopefully I'll have it by the weekend!

I ride the trails as well, just started though. Sometimes we start of by your place, Sunrise, and go up to the lake or down to the college. Not too far but a good 2 hrs round trip. I'll drop you an e-mail once we start riding again....
