Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

hand injury

I thought this might be the best place to ask, since this is probably a common injury. Before I get hassled for not going to the doctor, I've already been and the x-rays came back negative.
About 4 weeks ago, I fell going into a wet left-hand corner. When I fell, I put my left hand down to stop myself. Well, I of course had pain, and after the ride went to a 24 hour clinic. They took x-rays, which showed no fractures. The doctor said that I had probably just bruised the soft tissue in my hand. A week later, I went on a 40 mile ride, which probably wasn't the best thing, but it was actually feeling pretty good by then. The problem is that I'm still having some pain in the center of my hand and along the outer edge, even after taking Advil regularly for the past week. I even stayed off the bike for about 4 days. I rode a little last night and it brought back some of the soreness.
I'm probably going to end up seeing an orthopedic doctor, but I wanted to see if there were any "home remedies" that anyone could suggest that might help so I can avoid another visit.
Thanks.
