Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bottle cages

I'm in the market for some bottle cages. Can anyone recommend carbon or plastic cages that hold on to bottles well? Ideally an inexpensive carbon cage would be nice, but I don't want to buy one of the cheap ones I've been finding if it drops bottles over bumps.

I have been very happy with my Pedros Milk cages. Lightweight, hold the bottles quite well, made of recycled milk jugs (bonus), and rather inexpensive, even with an included bottle!

+ 1 on the tacx tao. I have the CF version and have zero problems with a bottle coming out. Also the only cage I found that fit my compact frame geometry (standard water bottle cages so not work on a compact geometry frame)

I use these Cateye bottle cages, https://www.cateye.com/en/product_detail/274

Very strong, quite light and they hang on to bottles VERY well. Oh, and they are cheap.

Regards, Anthony

They may not be pretty, but they do the job very well. I have them on one of my rides.

Elite Ciussi cages also work well, but they don't meet your materials spec.

Another inexpensive Performance option, stainless:

https://www.performancebike.com/shop/...tegory_ID=4341

For $5 you get a ~40 gram cage (I've weighed them, can't remember if the 40 grams included screws or not) and an excellent bottle. The bottle is well worth the money, and the cage is very simple and light - definitely won't drop the bottle.

-1 hold your bottles until you hit any decent size bump...then you will be turning around to pick up your bottles. I tried all the Performance cages before I gave up.

So (mrt10x)you used the exact ones I suggested and they did not work? by the way they are not "performance" water cages made by "performance bikes" they are made by Forte,I've used them for 1 year and 4 months and never had to pick up any bottle from the road, besides I have a nice bike not a mountain bike,I avoid the bumps as much as I can.

Forte is Performances store brand.. so they are Performance cages, and yes I used those exact ones.. and yes they ejected bottles when I hit potholes on downhills.. come to Hawaii.. you can avoid the bumps as much as you want and you will still hit others.

A lot of pro teams seem to use Tacx Tao cages, so I suspect they work well too!

I've been using the ridicoulously over priced Zipps from my local lbs. I've got to admit they work really well and the're the only Zipp product I've purchased since my carbon crank about 10 years ago!

you know what, this is actually a good question.I need some new cages.

I have the specialized cages below and they suck. they are so stiff that I can't pull out the bottle and drink while riding, so annoying. Can anyone recommend a cage that has easy bottle removal but it is still sturdy? Maybe side entry/removal of sorts?

Profile Design. They've been working pretty well for me. It holds my 20 oz bottles nice and tight.

I have two of those on my bike and they work fine, for what it's worth.

I got these from Trashbar. They are light, work well, and come in several colors.

https://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?c...cat%3A%20Cages

Sometimes I think there is no substitute for the traditional bottle cage. In my experience these artsy shaped or plastic cages don't work well...bottle is always too tight or too loose.

Arundel

My wife and i both love the Arundel cages. When I ordered them from Competitive Cyclist a couple of years ago they accidentally sent one of the side-loaders. Mounted on the seat tube, this is perfect for a small compact frame. Here is a link https://www.competitivecyclist.com/za...ODE=&BRAND.ID= They aren't cheap, but they grip the bottles well and release when you need to drink.
