Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The gel stuff is weird for me. Initially it feels comfortable, but after a while, it kind of mushes into places where I'd rather it not go. I have several pairs of normal shorts with it, and now I'm kind of in the process of rotating them out of the lineup or just using them for short duration/indoor use.

I never thought these had gel filled pads. It feels like sponge to me.

I agree...my Ultras don't seem to have any gel...just a spongy pad.

If you're cheap, Performance has the 2007 Elite bibs on sale right now for $35 (size medium only) and there are is a 10% discount code in the coupons forum. For me, those are the best bibs you can buy for under $32.

Different people like different chamois pads, so you will need to experiment a little before you settle on a brand and model.

+whatever on the Hammer bibs...I have three pairs, two from last year and one of the new ones...they are my favorite bibs for sure, and I've done a century in them and stayed comfortable...also for $99 plus shipping you could get 2 pairs of Hammer bibs

I would also be happy to refer any first time customers to Hammer nutrition.....you'd get great stuff, the 15% discount, and a bunch of free supplements....and I get a credit...just shoot me a message if interested.

If you wear an XL or XXL, I'd go with the $30 Descente Prologues(the only sizes available).

BTW Competitive Cyclist also has CSC jerseys for $23.99. I'll buy one for that price and put away for a decade or 2. In 15 years or so it will be a cool retro jersey.

I have both. I think the Descente chamois is a bit better as are the shorts overall. They are aboot 1- 1.5 inches longer than the voler shorts (makes for interesting tan lines!!!)

Either way you cant go wrong and as mentioned before the jerseys are now only $24.....these are the EXACT same as were worn by the team, they are really nice (sleeves are a little longer than most jerseys)

Oh and I also got the socks.......I never thought I would buy cycling specific socks but at the price they were I gave them a fling (6 for $28) and love them...

BTW I bought the shorts and jersey when they were $90 for both.....at the current price they are a steal.

hope this helps!

+1
$49 dollars can't be beat.
Plus you can buy 4-5 bibs for the same shipping cost of one.

Thanks for the input. I decided to go with the descente. Reason being the hammer ones will always be there at that price and the descente ones wont be. As far as the jersey being the exact one, are the bibs too? I would guess not since they are the prologue model and I think pro's would ride the highest model.

Also how is the fit? Should I size up? Down? ect..

Did you see the bib/jersey combination for $50?

Thanks for the tip. I just ordered a pair of the CSC on closeout at Competitive Cyclist.

I don't feel any gel in my Ultras. I don't think it is present in that model.

The bibs are not the same as worn by the team. The jersey is a race fit so is slightly tight IMO but probably not any tighter than most race jerseys (the voler jersey I have fits pretty much the same). The material in the jersey is excellent, very smooth, the pockets are deep and tight (I hate saggy pockets since I carry all my spares etc in there).

Fot $23 its probably the best value out there. Also, consider a pair (or pack) of socks, I really like them.

I think when I ordered mine I found a coupon for free shipping but I think you had to spend $100 to get it (try searching on google).

I just tried on the voler and descente shorts back to back. Both are really excellent for the price but I perfer the descente slightly more as they fit *me* better. They feel a little more supportive or tighter than the voler (they do have a higher % Spandex than the voler) they are definately tighter on the lower thigh/quad where the voler are a little loose........maybe I just need to develop more muscle

The strata chamois is the same one that comes on their strata shorts which are $170

What company sells the Descente Prologue bibs for $30 on closeout? Searched around and couldn't find it.
Thanks.

The Elites are a step down. The Ultras fit a little better, and the chamois is slighty better as well.

I don't know why folks seem to think that the Ultras are gel. It's the Century that's gel, and gel sucks in a chamois. The Ultra pad looks like a Cannondale to me.

It says it uses the "Descente's Phantom chamois" which is from the prologue bibs not the stata.

Competitive cyclist. Its under Specials and from pages 6-8 is where all the 2007 CSC gear is.

CSC Jersey $23.99
https://www.competitivecyclist.com/za...=SPECIALS&TFC=

CSC Bibs $29.99
https://www.competitivecyclist.com/za...E=SPECIALS&TFC=

CSC Bibs and Jersey $49.99
https://www.competitivecyclist.com/za...E=SPECIALS&TFC=

I just placed my order. I got one Bib and Jersey combo and 2 additional bibs. It was only $119.92 for 3 bibs and a jersey. I figure for that price its a good deal.
