Handlebar Width: How/Where Measure?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Handlebar Width: How/Where Measure?

How do you measure road handlebar width? i.e. Where do you take the measurements at?

i.e. Across the top or from the ends of the tubes (if they are different), or wherever it is widest; and do you measure inside-to-inside, center to center, or outside-to-outside?

each manufacturer has a different measurement. Best bet is to check out their web page and get the info from there.

They are usually center to center(c-c) but some are outside to outside and even fewer measured differently. It should tell you on the specs page for the handlebar.

Most are center to center. You will see the measurement and it will read '42cm C-C'. Deda is measured outside to outside so be aware that if you need 42cm bars and you are buying Deda's you need 44cm bars.
