Smallest inner chainring for standard Shimano crank?
I am building up a 1994 Serotta Colorado TG frame and have become interested in compact cranks. Since I already have an extra standard Shimano crank and a 50t outer ring, I am wondering if I can get a 36t that would fit or if 39 is as low as I can go.
Thanks

Compact cranks are typically 110 BCD (bolt circle diameter). Standard double cranks are typically 130 BCD (for Shimano). So do a search for 130 BCD chainrings and see how small of a ring you can find.

smallest 130bcd ring is 38T
I think FSA makes one
If you want any smaller, you have to go with a compact 110bcd and quite possibly a new BB to match the compact crankset, unless you can find a compact crank to match your current BB.
