Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

BPA in standard Specialized bottles?

These bottles are quite ubiquitous. Anyone know if they are made with BPA? I'm not really into growing the moobs.

The Specialized water bottles are made out of low density polyethylene (LDPE) which IN NO WAY contains any level WHATSOEVER of BPA. BPA is primarily found in epoxy resins and degraded polycarbonate (<== when you think polycarbonate think bulletproof windows and rigid water bottles). Your flexible water bottles are fine.

Yeah, I noticed the new Nalgene bottles are slightly flexible. Good to know. I hate the moobs.

I work in the outdoor industry and have been around the fear of BPA, first of all ITS SAFE TO DRINK SOMETHING WITH BPA IN IT. it is still backed by the government and the FDA! secondly, the #7 doesn't have ANYTHING to do with the BPA its a recycling code guys, come on.

Yeah but BPA is listed only under 3, 6, and 7 or something like that right? So if it's any of these it's supposed to be BPA free.

What do you think of Canada's recent action on BPA? https://blog.masslive.com/parentingpr...ith_bpa_c.html

I don't mean this in an argumentative way; I've just read the hype related to the ban there and haven't heard much in defense of BPA.

but there should be no fear of BPA, only and i say ONLY if you are eating the plastic, or if the plastic is cracked then you should worry, but simply drinking out of an item with BPA isn't neccessary.

My Zipp bottles are really Specialized (Made in the USA!) bottles which are recycling number 4. That supposedly indicates a BPA free plastic. Damn good waterbottles I will add.

That's what they, FDA, said about Acesulfame potassium, Aspartame and Sucralose.
That's what they were saying about asbestos a while ago.

Just because the government passes it, it doesn't mean it's safe.

Hmmmm....you're hurtling down a hill at 45mph riding 16 pounds of advanced composites, attached to the road with about 1.5 square inches of rubber, and you're worried about catching cancer in 25 years?!?

Do you have sunscreen on?

Are there cars on the road with you?

Have you instructed the sweet woodland creatures in the area not to run out in front of you?

Do you wrap your head in aluminum foil before you use your cell phone to cut down on the death rays it generates?

Option 1: Don't worry about it. The minute you're born you begin to die. Deal with it.

Option 2: Spend $10 and get a couple of new water bottles made out of whatever material you wish.

Either way, I guarantee that you'll be dead in the next 100 years.

Uhm... try spinning down the MUP at 16 mph on a sub-14 pound bike. Obviously, you're in the wrong forum.

BPA & plastic both are terrible for us and our environment. As per my opinion BPA-free label doesn’t mean a product is free from other harmful chemicals.

But the BPA is what makes water bottle water so delicious.

Polyethylene is about as non-toxic as a material gets. Certainly moreso than wood and coated paperboard. In case you are wondering, I spent my career working on polyethylene.

I'm glad 10 years after this thread started we can still debate this.

Also my wood and paperboard water bottles are useless!
