Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

+1

It's very American too. Though we're getting more of that sort of thing here these days for all the blinged-out footballers.

The jersey room is nifty though.
(kinda reminds me of a video posted here a long time ago that included a guy rolling out of his garage whose walls inside were covered with race numbers - that was dead cool)

^lance has been well connected in the investment world from very early in his career. tom wiesel (sp?) is an investment banker-cyclist, and has been a sponsor forever. bob roll has penned his admiration of lance's ability to hop on the computer and check out his money after killer training sessions (boone nc). 'ol tom has an ocean front pad about two miles from here, 40k sq ft. he built it 7 years ago, just before our real estate values doubled.

blah, what's with all the red/pink (coral?) furniture, drapes and lamp shades. Think he needed to chose a designer that plays for the same team as he does.

does look like he just wrote the check, though he probably was too busy chasing down skanks in between bike shop and foundation gigs.

Yeah, but he probably stole his money off the little people.

You never get wealthy honestly. There's always a gimmic. It's never sheer hard work. There's always a trick. Sort of like the guys that actually are good at bike racing. They all cheat.

BTW...Weisel is a national championship rider in his own right. Another thing to hate them for.

Excellent championship rider and rich too.

+1 on that...my wife sells art and I've been in a few of her client's homes. I'll never forget the guy who had dropped over $100K for decorative art pieces to place around the house. Hanging proudly on the wall in a bedroom was a painting of four white stallions charging out of breaking surf on a black background.

If you let someone "ride your back", it's because you are not smart enough to keep that from happening.

Sounds like you're just jealous. Let's make fun of rich people so they can't spend their money. Rich people spending their money actually helps us all rather than just sitting on it.

Agreed. We're all better off that Bill Gates didn't waste much time cycling and that LA shat all over France for 7 years.

I thought he said they were not in a main part of the house, as in, they are not out for everyone to see, tucked into a more private room.

From the article....

Jerseys from the Tour de France, which Armstrong won seven times, from 1999 to 2005, are displayed in the media/game room. “He didn’t want them in a prominent place,” says Materanek. J. Robert Scott spotted pillow print. Dedar fabric on chair and ottoman in foreground. Pollack mohair on side chair. Great Plains wool on cocktail ottoman.

That's a pretty accurate statement. Looks like a nice place to live, if you ask me.
