What quality shades do you ride with? I've been using these. They are cheap and the "optics" are just pieces of colored plastic, but they fit my face well and the various shades of lenses are very useful for different weather conditions.

I would like to upgrade to some quality glasses with interchangeable lenses. I lean towards Oakley because I've had good experiences with them in the past.

As far as Oakleys are concerned, who uses either the M frame or Radar for riding? Which lens style do you prefer?

How do the vented lenses work - are they only meant to reduce fogging, or do they somehow reduce wind in your eyes? I ask because I wear contacts and making sure my sunglasses help keep the contact-drying wind out of my eyes is an important criteria.

Any other relevant comments are welcome.

I have the Oakley M Frames. I have both Strike and Sweep style lenses. The Strike one fogs a lot for me because it fits my face too well (no air movement). I used my Dremel tool to make some venting the same way Oakley does it on the factory vented lenses and that helped a good little bit. But overall I like the Sweep style better because I get good visual coverage but still have some airflow. YMMV though, face shape can change everything.

Oh, and the venting is at the top and allows some airflow from top to bottom. I wouldn't think that's a great thing for contact wearers.

Remember cheap doesn't necessarily mean bad and expensive doesn't necessarily mean good.

I like my Rudy Project Ekynox SX sunglasses. I've been using yellow lenses but recently ordered some racing red lenses since I've been reading that they're good in a wide range of conditions.

I don't have any experience with any of the products you mentioned so I can't comment there.

I've been using Performance Vector glasses since 2005 and they still hold up admirably. Don't fog much and do the job. Not bad for $14.95 on sale.

I like Rudy Project sunglasses... really light, fit well, lots of different lenses to choose from.

oakleys are kinda freddish... lance wore m-frames right? kinda like how he rode trek...

Are those Rudy Projects commonly available in brick and mortar stores? for some reason I've got it in my head that they're primarily a cyberspace brand... I need to try on sunglasses for sure before I buy them. I guess I could just not be lazy and wade through their website to find a dealer, but what fun would that be?

I had corrective eyes surgery back in March. My doctor knew I was not going to stop biking and was concerned about keeping my UV exposure low while also keeping dirt & what not out of my eyes. So she recommended I use Wiley X Climate Control Sunglasses while my eyes heal.

My eyes have since healed and I continue to use this glasses, I love them mainly because they keep 100% of my sweat out of my eyes.

yea they should be available at your lbs that stocks rudy. I bought my frames from the lbs cuz I received a team discount.

cyberspace brand? I don't think they're rare or exotic. they are cool and work well though. I'm sure there are tons of athletes that wear rudy, including many ppl on this board.

I have M frames and UVEX. I just bought cheap PBK sunnies with 5 different interchangeable lenses. They all work well. I love my UVEX

I have Oakley Radars. I personally love them and have no complaints. You can also swap out three different lense shapes and bunch of different colors all in the same frame.

I have the Oakley Radar Path. I love them. I have had several cheap pairs of Tifosi's with the last one taking a rock to the lense that cracked it doing 35mph down a hill in a group ride. The Oakley's were heavily discounted for me or price whould have been prohibitive!

ive owned 2 pairs of rudy projects... sold them instantly.. they felt too cheap / poor sq (ie sharp jags from injected moulding)

I use the regular Oakley flak jacket polarized. super light and I've never fogged up. Only issue is price of other lenses...they came with grey and I'd like a clear and yellow set...but at $120.00 a pop thats tough considering I paid 200 for them

This year I switched from Oakley's to Tifosi Pave with the Fototec lenses. I considered interchangeable lenses but decided I didn't want to mess with them, and it was important to me to have glasses that handled the changing light conditions over long rides (especially ones that start really early in the morning ). The lenses work great - in fact it's pretty freaky how the world always looks the same brightness even as light conditions vary widely.

Unexpected bonuses:

- Less wind reaches my contacts keeping them from drying out
- Better peripheral vision
- Better visibility when in the drops/aero bars

+1 on Tifosi Optics. likely the best of the best lower price cycling shades out there. i have been wearing the Q3 with fototec lens for two years now. i wear contacts and normally have some early season allergies. with these vented glasses the eyes can get irrated faster then normal, but for me it is not a real big issue. later.

+2 on the Tifosis- I use the Q3 as well, but with the interchangeable lenses. For the price, the visual quality is off the charts, the frames are well made, and you get 4 sets of lenses. And I haven't had a problem with the vented lenses.

I have Rudy Project Rydons and love them. Very light and great optics. LBS here doesnt sell them so I found an eye dr that did and tried them on. Ordered them online to get the lenses I wanted quicker.

I just can't pay $50.00 or $100 for a pair of sunglasses (OK, I'm cheap!). I just use these:

For $8.00 I can keep a pair in each car, plus one in my computer bag, plus one in the garage for weedeating and mowing, plus have one left over for biking. They're comfortable, impact-resistant, optically correct, UV filtering, keep the wind out of my eyes, and if I scratch 'em really bad or loose 'em or run over one with the car or something - hey, I'm only out $8.00!
