Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Trek 5200 eBay scam?

Gee, I thought the 5200 Trek on eBay looked familiar:

https://www.bayoubid.com/item/38393/

I wonder if this is a scam...

https://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...&category=7298

... it looks too good to be true.

You might be right. Did you notify e-bay to check it out?

I wonder if the winner of the first auction received the bike...

Even assuming the Ebay auction is legit, I would never bid on a seller with ZERO feedback. Often times, even one or more bidders with multiple positive feedbacks are involved and will place bids to make it seem safe for new, inexperienced bidders. Anyway, I directed the high bidder to this thread......who knows, maybe he's part of this whole thing as well....who knows?

George

I emailed the seller (I use eBay quite a bit) and informed them that eBay has been notified of a 'potential false auction'
We'll see how it pans out.

Gah. O FB seller, new ebay seller, no FB left or recieved, expensive item, no safe payment options (i.e. paypal w/ credit card). I think I'd run and hide. File a report with safe harbour at ebay about the auction and provide the links you provided here, but contact neither the seller or any of the bidders in the auction.

They're only running the one auction, and bikes are not exactly the leading fraud category on ebay (I think that'd be consumer electronics, though that's a guess). This auction is a no-bid, even if it's real.
