Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Richard Sachs is not taking any more orders because he's remodeling his company. he's retiring the 'Richard Sachs' line-up marketing logo and once finished- he's going to launch a brand of ultra-highend art/bikes...

everything will be gold plated, un-rideable (as they will be works of art only) and will be under the new brand of "Dick Sachs"

If you don't have one (really, I'm quite surprised), then it's reason enough to know I'll never need one.

He gets it.

And yes... they ride amazing. Spent a weekend racing one of his cross bikes in October, 2005.

Very true, and I think we're incredibly fortunate to have such fantastic, younger talent on this continent. The art and craft of framebuilding by hand isn't going to be lost when the elder generation retires.

^^^ If the younger generation ever manages to stop playing Halo and get off the couch to go learn how to ride a bicycle, it'll be a minor miracle, let alone build a frame.

Come to Portland for a visit. We're going to have a regional handbuilt bike show at some point in the fall, I believe.

Honestly, the draw just hasn't been there for me.

Now if he called me up and said "terry b, you've done more than anyone I know to promote the work of independent builders on the internet and I want you on one of my bikes so I'm moving you to the head of the line", I would think a bit about it.
