Importance of stem upgrade

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

But carbon is sexy.

"Disadvantages: They don't look as awesome when you get a big ass crack in it from the bike falling off your roof rack."

Solution: Don't drop your bike.

+1 on Ritchey WCS Axis. 115 grams, 4 bolts, strong and light.

Ritchey 4 Axis. KCNC S Wing is also terrific. (Can't really knock the Thomson stems, but I just don't like the looks (and weight) of them for road bikes. I have and love mine for the MTB.)

Just saw the Forte Pro stem from Performance. 125 grams (100 mm), 4 bolt clamp, $24.99 on sale. Kind of hard to beat.

That's because there's a lot of aluminum stems that are lighter than many (most?) carbon stems.
