Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bikes: Three road bikes. Two track bikes.

It might depend on what kind of riding you do. If you are just cruising in the drops a lot, then you might rotate your hands to the outside, thus necessitating the "advanced parktool method". For me though, I don't rotate my hands to the outside with any force if I am just cruising, but I definitely do rotate my hands to the inside when I am pulling on the bars during a sprint or hard acceleration from the drops.

I'll trust my experimentation over what some website says.

I don't use bar tape on the tops of the bars, and I'm still on the original (31-year old) tape on the drops. Gets the job done.
