Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bontrager vs DT Swiss

So I have finally switched out my Bonty selects and Race tires only 1000 miles. After alot of reading of threads and posts I decided on DT Swiss RR 1.1 and conti gatorskins. They look great, beatutiful style hold the road very well. The only hangup is they don't seem to roll as good as the bonty's. Is it the stickier tires or the 32 spoke wheels. Thanks Paul Y.

I'm assuming your DTs are custom built wheels? In general i'm not a big fan of anything made by bontrager/trek....The gatorskins are probably the weak link here. I have RR1.1 with ProRace3s on my race bike also a pair of RR1.2 with prorace3s

What hubs are you running? I've been running my 1.1s for 2 years built on Record hubs and I have no complaints.

I ride krylions Carbon tires on my Bonty Races...and have noticed that they roll VERY well compared to friends on other sets of wheels, both expensive and run of the mill. I'm a little guy, so when I'm able to coast with them on descents, and sometimes out coast them, that tells me many things...one of which is that my wheels roll very well.

*edit* I'll add that I'm not particularly a fan of Bonty Race wheels. The set I'm riding now is a warranty replacement for the first set that failed.

I know what you mean about other guys commenting on the roll of bontys. I just didn't trust them , too many people complaining about the quality concerned me.

Is there any way to put ceramic bearings in the hubs of a Madone 6.5? Or would I have to swap out the hubs? Thanks.

yeah. the bearings that are in there are standard size. if you can find ceramic bearings that match, you should be able to do it.
