Click's are driving me nuts
Hello everybody. After a quick and hard ride today I felt the need to post. I have had a click going on that got exponentially worse today. It started only when I would put "digging" force on the right pedal i.e. going up a slight incline, pushing at a stop etc. It was nothing much and never got worse and actually for a while went away. Well, today it was bad. It was to the point where both pedals (which has never happened) started going for it. Always when there was down force being applied. The only way I was able to stop it was by almost eliminating my down force and only pulling the pedals up. Sure it was quiet but not so easy to do. I went through Sheldon's articles and did some tests and nothing really seemed to match. I think it may be the BB but I thought I would see what you all thought. Any ideas or thoughts throw them my way! Thanks!

I recently had a problem with creaking everytime I got out of the saddle. Greasing the front skewer took care of it. The noise seemed to be coming from my head set. Check your skewer. Also, try a drop of oil on the chain ring bolts or even tighten them.

It could be so many things.
It could be as easy as needing to tighten a front or back quick release a little more. (Check them first!) If that doesn't work, ping the group again. |
iPod up - no more clicks.

HAHA I love the ipod idea... infact I just saw in the Nashbar magazine an ipod/cell phone hookup for handlebars! Safety first right??

Try making sure your crank arms are tight. Ever so slightly loose cranks can cause a creak.
|
Try tightening the pedals.
|
i bet this has something to do with your pedals and cleats interfacing.
|
Its a crank torque problem. Use the search for this forum. There was a very useful thread about exactly this problem - and the solution to it.

So true. And if you can still hear the clicking with the ear phones in, just turn up the volume. :p

Had that one several times, first it was loose pedals. Months later it was worn out pedals.

I did do a search and it led me to Sheldon's page. I searched there and like I said came up with nothing. Maybe I just did not search the for the right thing. Rober, the link would have been nice :/
As for pedals, they are only about 2 years old. They still look pretty good so I would hope that is not the problem. I will double check the crank arms and their tightness though, Thanks for that!! |

I suffered with a click/creak problem on my new bike ever since I got it two weeks ago... until today. I had taken it back to the LBS where I purchased it, having told them of the noise which I assumed was coming from the BB. This I determined by still getting the noise while pedaling even with the chain removed. They also adjusted the (expected) stretched cables and tuned the derailleurs. Got it back yesterday and still, same noise.
So, after today's ride, I took off the chain again then swapped out the pedals (Look Keo Sprints) with some Shimano SPD pedals from my MTB. No more noise! Put chain back on and pumped around the block... no noise! Put the Sprints back on... NOISE! So, I got out the allen wrench and increased the release tension on the pedals about 5 clicks and that cured it! |
This stuff makes everyone nuts. And it's almost impossible to hear the true source.
I had clicks from the rear. Tried everything. I mean everything. Turned out it was teh headset spacer. I greased up and it's all better. But it took forever to track down. Good luck. |
THANK GOD FOR YOU GUYS!!! I went to my new favorite LBS and picked up a GIANT brand wrench and puller for a whole $16 bucks. Came home, unscrewed and tightened both crank bolts and I'll be damned if there is not a single little click or squeak out of the darn bike! They only noise I hear are my tires running against the street. I tried mashing, pushing everything that used to make the noise and it feels solid as a rock. Thank you all for your help!! YOU GUYS ROCK!!!
