New here- looking for a bike
Hi,
I've been lurking here for a little while and thought I might register and recruit the collective knowledge of bikeforums to help me get into cycling.
I have been riding casually for a few years, but I've just moved downtown and want to take advantage of what the city has to offer me on a bike.
For the past year I've been taking running pretty seriously and I would like to add cycling to compliment running, and I am considering trying a small triathalon next year.
I would like a bike that is fast and comfortable for long hauls (a century perhaps?) and a possible tour bike, and hearty enough for some semi-rough roads in the area.
I looked at a GT Edge at a local used bike store. They seem pretty reputable, but I don't know what I'm doing- so I'm looking for help.
It is an aluminum frame bike with Ultegra components and has apparently been ridden through France. The wheel hubs are replaced with something that looks and feels really strong because it was apparently ridden by someone who weighs around 250 lbs.
They are offering the bike for $900.
Is this a good deal, or even the bike I want?
What should I look for in a used bike to make sure it will last me for a good long time?

Can you post more details. More info on the frame, components, wheels. Model year? Have you ridden it? Does it fit?
