Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Miles to date: January

I am a bit dissapointed in myself for the first month of 2004. I wanted at least 500 miles but got only to 420. It looked like I would easily reach my goal untill it started snowing and work picked up the last two weeks of the month as I had 420 by the 20th. Oh well, Next month I will be missing a week as I have a business trip back to the old hard ass midwest, but that is no excuse my goal is 600, shouldn't be a problem, as the days are noticable longer and I'm beginning to feel jitter due to the stored up energy. I also signed up with team BF on activebody.org which will urge me on, I also got a new set of Velomax Circuits to try and destroy!

wow, 420 miles is still a lot for this time of year. Right here in the midwest I'm trying to get on my trainer 2-3 times a week and thats only 20miles per session. Congrats on your acheivement, and maybe you can do 680 to make up for it?

Its been tough in New York

329 in January and 41 today for a total of 370 to date in '04. Not sure how you could get much more seeing what the weather has been like here in NY, and working a FULL time job. I even went out when it was 1F!

(also 9 trainer sessions of about 50 minutes each)

I commuted to work 4 times, that is worth about 215 miles...Grand total for the month is 532. Pretty good...Do all errands when possible on the bike...Spring is coming..It will get better. Difficult to commute to work more times than 4...

I stripped the singlespeed down to the frame and refurbished it. Spun the front wheel alot.

Does that count for anything?

You guys will hate me then.

Being in sunny Florida I managed 1008 miles on bike and 1068 miles including time on the trainer...

Of course if you go to https://www.bikejournal.com you will see that I'm in 7th place and that #1, hammer, has nearly 900 miles more than I do!

597 miles for January. BTW, prestonjb, that included lots of real hills and mountain roads, not freeway overpasses and drawbridges over the intracoastal waterway! OK, I admit it, I am jealous: I want to ride for a day without any climbing!

YTD 806.2kms ~ 503.875 miles
YTD elevation gain = 1900m ~ 6232 ft
YTD ave speed = 30.02kmh ~ 18.76 mph

hey prestonjb, I have been trying to catch your milage for the first few days/weeks at bikejournal.. you dropped after a week or so.... Then, I was off the bike until yesterday when we tackled a really steep hill.. but I'm proud to say that I was in the top 5 for the first week... and at #1 for about a day.

That's how I feel, its guilt having come to Denver from Chicago. But I did commute year round there as well, so its not so bad.

369.6 miles for January including 1 century. BTW, if you ride outside your normal region, be careful, very careful when someone says (like from Chattanooga, TN - Smokie Mountains) that a century is flat. I knew there would be a problem when 15 miles into the ride I was climbing up a road with a slow lane for truckers on the "flat century".

1025km with 12,880 metres of climbing. 640miles/42,000feet.

That's a lot of hills.

CHEERS.

0 on the bike, about 200 km's on the X-C skis! I love biking, but for me nothing can compare to zipping along over the snow on a moon lit night.

275.9 all outdoors, only 25 miles less than I intended to do. Taking it easy and doing other things with my time, but still getting out a couple times a week when the sun begs.
