55/Rad went above and beyond
I made a thread about a week ago about my sit bones being in alot of pain making me skip multiple days of cycling.
55/Rad replied and said he had a saddle in my size that he would trade for me Though being very new to all of this I had nothing to trade but offered to pay. The man would have none of it. He said he would mail me the saddle and I would not even have to pay for shipping. I was pretty stoked. I have received this package today and not only has he sent me the slightly Specialized Alias 143 saddle but he also threw in a set of unused tires. Both incredible upgrades from what I am using now and I did not pay a dime. He is a stand-out guy and I thought you all should know this. It is really nice for him to help out a complete stranger that is new and in need in this expensive (totally badass) sport. UPDATE:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::; I have put on the saddle and and the new tires, and went for a quick ride. Only a 10 miler but I could quickly feel my sit bones were in rejoice for me not treating them so cruelly. It was a little worn so I do not have to break it in as much which is also great. I amy need to do some height and angle adjustments when I find some time, that should be no problem though. They should sale all saddles pre-ridden like they do pre-wash for pants. Anyways, for the tires I went out and put in my presta tubes that my bike gave me for free for screwing something up and pumped up those tires. They are red Pararacer Stadium Pro. My previous tires were no-name, so obviously there was a large upgrade here. I was not expecting any difference but as I went out on the road with 110/120 psi besides my old 80/100 psi I felt like I was flying. It was trully exceptional ride. My current riding record is slightly over 30 miles and tomorrow with these new toys I am going for 50. Really again 55 you are the man and have made my cycling experience go out the roof. I was already hooked and now I will probably being 2-a-days, too 8,000 miles a year type of dude.Hopefully this year I will attempt a century or a few races before I put this bike as a back-up as I will hopefully have enough money to buy a bike like you guys own when the 2010's come out. cheers, 30 ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Edit-2 Rad I had my first full ride with these new units. The seat fit very well and I did not feel and incredible sit bone pain. I was finally able to ride longer distances without needing to rest or ride out of saddle. And for the tires!!! I used to use no-name 700X25c and now with tires that Rad gave me 700X23 brand new. And now I only had to rest once during ride. Versus haveing to stop 2-3 times during 25 mile rides. I broke my record and rode 45 miles with only needing to rest once. It has been an incredible difference and I cannot thank you enough. I was not even tired and I only stopped because I thought it was 50 miles. (No cyclometer quite yet. Maybe never, I feel I will focus on it too much and mess up my ride.) Soon I am going to add my last upgrade an go clipless and then I am going to ride the hell out of this bike until the 2010's come out and I can find a good price on an 09' or 08' so I can be on the level as all you guys. 30min ;;:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: |
Somebody has to offset Pcad.

Wait... I thought 55/Rad was here longer... either way he has some of the best pictures on the forum (him and umd)
But cheers! Glad you found a good saddle! :thumb: |
Not a surprise.
When he had a set of wheels for sale several months ago, I sent a PM asking about them. He offered to mail them, no questions asked, for me to inspect 1st hand. I didn't take him up on his offer, but I did appreciate it. A class act. |
Awesome!

He's a great guy. He has no clue how much he has helped me and my family. I could never re-pay him for all his goodwill. I mean it.

Glad it worked out - bike karma is a concept I wholeheartedly believe in. Pass it on when you get a chance....

Welcome to the club. :thumb:
I stumbled into his garage a few years back in need of some help. Still very much appreciated. |
what a solid thing to do wow especially in this age of internet extremity and rudeness.
ive drooled over your bikes for years and years! mind telling me what saddle you use on the pinarello and the orca? i'm just in the process of selling my pinarello frame on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MESE:IT&ih=019 i'm sure at some point i will regret parting with that frame. it was going to become a fixed gear build, with vintage italian components. it didn't fit into the stable however, because im doing way more commuting than riding about town, so i needed a frame that could have fenders, a rack, etc. in place of the pinarello comes my seven cycles odonata with full record (!) yet no saddle. i'm looking for something sexy with a max price of around $150 and it obviously has to support my tail for thousands of hard miles. |
those kind of gestures, particularly to strangers, show the true character of someone.

I've never met 55/Rad outside of BikeForums, or received any bike goodies from him. However, when I was first lurking around BikeForums, he was one of the people who influenced me to sign up. He has consistently been one of the friendliest, most helpful people on here, both to newbies and to regulars.

PS - If he ever wants to get rid of that chrome Pinarello Montello, I will put myself in a medieval torture rack to stretch my legs till I fit!

Makes me miss Oregon a little.

Hey Rad, I'm looking to get fitted for a Specialized Transition, size 57 cm. Any chance you got one that I could 'trade' you for? You don't have to send new tires with it if you don't have them. I'll understand.
