Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

We seem to agree on most bike but not here. I really like the paint.

This is a repost of the bike I built a couple of years ago. I ditched the dreadful "ergo" bars (ergo for who?) for a set of Nitto Noodles and added a nice polished Nitto 2 bolt seat post. I am of an age where I am not going to race, not going to pretend I am. When I started riding, bikes had skinny double butted steel tubing and level top tubes. Compact frames just look wrong to me. Not going to ride an awkward looking bike just to save a few ounces. On the modern side, I love indexed shifting and the ability to have close ratios and a wide range on the same bike. 105 shifters and derailleurs, Ultegra BB, compact crank and hubs, Mavic Open Pro rims, Tektro long reach brakes. The frame is made for long reach brakes so you can run wider tires. I am using 25mm. They roll well and are a bit smoother than the ultra narrows. Terry Liberator Y Gel saddle and Shimano A520 sport/touring pedals. Lezyne road drive pump. I got spoiled in the old days by the ubiquitous Zefal HP that actually worked. Most mini pumps today are useless. This one will actually inflate your tire. Their floor pumps are sweet too. I don't care if you don't like the amount of spacers. The frame has a short head tube and I want to be comfortable for a casual ride. I tried to go for the old style "7" one piece stem look with a polished VO stem and polished spacers.

Never liked those wheels but they kind of work here. I'd lose the red tyres - too much.

ive always loved the looks of those soma stanyans. chrome lugs on black always look pretty. i would have done black tape, and im not a fan of the saddle's looks, but comfort trumps looks any day...all in all i like it.

I could let the wheels go but not that saddle. Hate it.

Absolutely love that frame otherwise.

I'm not sure what it is about the lighting in the photo, but the grey bar tape looks different. It almost looks brown. In person, the bar tape actually matches the frame. As for the saddle, you don't see it when the bike is being ridden!
It's the only comfy saddle I've been able to find that works well for me on long rides like a century.

Other than the red tires, I REALLY like this bike for some reason. Though SRAM Rival makes more sense due to the wheels

Thanks, I just bought it to ride down the MUP.

As for the chainrings, they aren't black but I did just order one of these for it.

Sad note - I'm selling the bike that started this thread (I already have a buyer lined up so I'm not advertising). Oh well, maybe I can post whatever I replace it with down the line here, although I have to admit the bar has been set higher than my wallet will probably allow.

Since it was rated Hot on this thread you should get double FMV.

ravenmore, that is sad and I am glad to see that you were able to sell it so quickly. Hope you're able to replace it sooner than later.
