All very good points. I'll admit the post in Hot or Not was an after thought and I used a picture I already had. I should have better respected the rules of Hot or Not and took a specific picture for the thread. :)

There ARE no rules! There IS no right or wrong way to present one's bike! Only opinions, and it's just fine for folks to have a different opinion than someone else.

Hmm. I can't … mention the nonexistent 'rules' so how do I describe this? We are voting on bikes, not accessories so I think (my opinion only, of course!) that it's sometimes, occasionally better, y'know if you remove all of the other stuff, including bottles before photographing your ride. Not that there's anything wrong with your bottle, I was just pointing out that when the bike looks good, some of that other stuff doesn't matter. If you are Cindy Crawford, then a mole is not a mole, it's a beauty mark. But if you're Shrek, then a mole might should be removed… hehehe.

p.s. - Also … Crank in the wrong position and Garmin mounted on front… ;)

Don't take this personal, and don't get all butt hurt like some are want to do. Your post is just a good example.

There IS no wrong position for the crank, and there's nothing wrong with tha garmin. There's only opinions.

Just like you say, when the bike looks good it looks good regardless.

I think this has gotten a little ridiculous, then again this country is full of bleeding heart liberals these days.

Super Hot.,..great colors!

dtrain 05-08-14 04:40 PM

I had that exact Trek years ago. Was my first and only road bike for awhile...then my rain bike / beater / commuter for several more years. Kind of a tank, but it held up to a lot of abuse...

edit: found an old pic

I don't think it's hot either, but it fits and rides well.

It's not bad at all, just too plain for me. You've definitely got great components on it :)

I can't believe that Trek isn't getting ripped apart. What happened to this thread?

If you give anything more than a "Not", you have to add "In my opinion". It has become exhausting to defend your own personal opinion these days.

What's your verdict on the Trek, oh wise King Hoternot?

This. "Hot or not" means "only positive comments and everyone gets a participation trophy."

Sounds just like society these days. Everyone is "special" and a "winner".

Its a Not for me. As for the frame itself, I like the geometry better than most Trek's I see. As for the bike as a whole, I dont like it much, but that is honestly just a matter of taste. I dont find older bikes to be appealing (I realize this isn't considered an OLD bike). I dont like the shape of the saddle, angle of the stem or the shape of the bars. I'm on the fence with the crankset/rings. Dont know if I'd rather see an all black crank/rings or all silver crank/rings. Either way, I dont like the split black and silver crank/ring.

All in my opinion of course ;)

It actually is pretty old (about 14 years) and heavy (over 20 lbs). That's first gen Sora, and a threaded Cro-Mo fork. Until I changed out the horrible blue wheels, I joked that it looked like a Franz Bread truck:
