Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bike vs Squirrel : The Reckoning

Apologies in advance if this has already been posted, but it was hard to resist.

I found this link on another forum. The photos are from May, but I don't remember seeing them here.

Apparently a squirrel inserted himself into the front wheel of a road bike with a carbon fork. The end result: one dead squirrel, one injured rider (fractured vertebrae), and some crazy pictures.

edit: I'm sorry- saw that this was posted in June.

I'm surprised the fork gave before the squirrel did. I've seen a squirrel in two clean halves along the trail, probably because of bladed spokes.

I will now think twice about challenging the crack squirrels that traverse around campus...

Looks like the helmet didn't help that guy, or the squirrel for that matter...

poor squirrel... I am sure PETA had a funeral for the squirrel and issued an official condemnation of the rider and bicycling in general as a direct threat to cute, cuddly ground-based animals.

I'll be riding in the Greek mountains next week. They don't have squirrels. They have lizards.
