Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Shimano Compact Cranks - Where are they made?

Trying to decide on which compact crank to choose, I was under the impression that only the R600 and R700 were the choices, but now found that 105, Ultegra, and Ultegra SL are all available in compact for (50/34).

The R600 appears to be made in Malaysia, and the 5650 (105 Series) appears to be made in Japan from a pic that i've seen.

Can anyone with the R700 check to see where it's made? I'm assuming that the ones made in Japan might be slightly better?

There isn't much of a price difference between the R700, and the Ultegra Compact.

Honestly, it doesn't matter if it's made in Japan, Malaysia or Taiwan, the quality is the same.

If anyone has the R700 and Ultegra versions, I would be curious to know where they're made. I know that most Dura-Ace is made in Japan, although i'm not sure about other components.

You not read the previous posts or do you just not want to listen...

They're made in America by huge chested men of Anglo Saxon descent, men who turn metal into art all day then go home and make passionate love to their wives. Does that make you feel any better?
