tufo riders - fill me in!
i'm going to need new tires in another 400 miles or so and i'm thinking of taking the tufo plunge and i'm wondering....
what model do you ride and what's your riding style like?
have you compared the race and training models?
how do you like them and what were you riding previously?
how does the sealant work? does this go in before you flat or after?
also, where did you buy yours? i saw them for about $80 at the LBS (ouch!)

I've used the S22 model, its considered a training tire. (The clincher compadable model would be the C S22.) I got it from my LBS for 40 bucks. I'm getting around to trying the racing models. But the S22 was pretty durable, the ride was ok, I really like the ride of a nice conti tubular or vittoria cx (BTW these cost 60 bucks a tire). The S22 is a good training/commute tire.
the sealant should be put in right-away. The core of the stem comes out and inject the some sealant and reinstall the of the stem. When I got the tufos I just carried the sealant around with me until I got a flat. It's just easier to install the sealant in my garage verse on the road.
the sealant is lightweight and stays in liquid form in the tire...until you get a flat, then the sealant finds the puncture and seals it! I was riding up a hill with 3 guys on my rear wheel when I heard the sound a tire going flat...I had the sealant installed and I kept on riding, the the sound stopped quickly and my rear tire still felt solid. I must have lost only 10psi...the guys were impressed.

I just got a set of s22's a few months ago. I love' em. They are durable and hold air pressure for long periods of time. Before these tires I was a die hard conti man. I'll probably ride tufo exclusively now. I put the sealent in at the time of install, 3 mos. and zero flats.

Just ride.
I haven't taken the plunge... just waded in. I don't have tubular rims, but wanted to see what they were like. I'm using the clincher S33s. I like the ride. What fogrider said about sealant. They're tough. Corner well. The only downside, IMO, the clincher tubies are heavy.
Tufo has a sponsorship deal with my club, so I bought mine as part of a club order. They were $26 each, sealant was $3.10.
The tufo NA web-site has a discussion group... might be a good place to get some opinions, tho' I bet they'd mostly be kind of biased.
