Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

On the Road in Toronto

Hello,
I moved to Toronto a few years ago and live in the beach. I think I have covered every inch of the MUP and the Tommy Thompson park. I am looking for a road route that I can maintain higher speeds on. Any suggestions?
Thanks

you need to get out of the city, or very close to the fringe... suggestion: take kingston road all the way out to rouge hill. its a nice ride and if you want, an avenue out of the city altogether.

+1 - you have to get out. I used to live at Yonge & Eg and also down in High Park and I used to sometimes drive outside a little bit after work to put a few good hours north or west of the city.

TBN does Friday night rides, but I've never been on one. Might be a bit too social vs. hard core for your tastes. They also have a list of organized tours, etc. if you are looking to get out for a century or something.

Go to MapMyRide.com and look for some good rides out of Toronto:

The donut ride is a fast, loosely organized group ride that apparently takes place on weekend mornings starting from Leaside and heading north into Vaughan or Markham region. I've never attended but you can google it or even read about it in Wikipedia, I believe.

EDIT: here it is:

Donut Ride is good times, but there are a lot of crashes - so just be aware.
I show up when the weather's nice and I feel like getting a good shelling.
