Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

$5000 Inheritance!!

IF I inherited $5000 and could spend it on a new bike, what's the lightest, "relaxed geometry" road bike out there for me? Just dreaming, but someday...

Nothing like hoping for the death of a loved one so you can buy a new bike.

I never fail to be amazed at some of the responses on this site. I love the site and learn a lot but half the time am slack jawed at the idiotic and rude responses. Where do you get that the OP is hoping for a loved one to die?

Thanks, Mike.

i don't know about an inheritance, but for a relaxed geometry frame i'd check out the LOOK 585 optimum.
i'd also being waiting to see what else 2009 brings.

I am shocked you haven't fired up the batphone to give me a call.....

For you....I would forget the relaxed geometry thing. You don't need it. But....if you insist then look into a Cervelo R3 (?), or even a Giant OCR C....

....and of course just order the frame and have your wrench put it together for you

Try reading his post again. Unless inheritances suddenly come from some source other than the death of a loved one, he would appear to be "dreaming" (his words, that's what quotes mean) of a day when a loved one dies and leaves him a bunch of money.

I'm quite adept and reading and comprehension. The OP started off with a large IF. To me that means this is highly hypothetical and he is not wishing for a death so he can buy a bike. He would have been better off saying "What if I found $5000.00 on the side of a road..." but he's not wishing someone dead.

Thanks, Mike.

G-man. Dial up a Seven, Indy Fab, or any other custom ride. They'll get you as relaxed a geometry as you could wish for.

You deserve it.

Edit.... Get thee to the Waterford plant up in Wisconsin. It's only 90 minutes north of you!

Knowing the OP personally I can unequivocally tell you that he's not wishing for anyone to die. Period.

Sometimes I wish everyone would die, then I could just walk around and pick up all the stuff I want. My neighbor has a really nice car, I may start with that.

Hey guys...knowing the OP personally as well...he did experience a death in the family a while back. I think the hypothetical in this case is more centered around the possibility of there being a chunk of the inheritance available for a bicycle purchase instead of the myriad of other worthy things to spend it on.

...but thanls for questioning where he was coming from on this one. Let me assure you he is not wishing for anyone's death.....except for maybe the boy that we caught kissing his daughter upon return from one of our rides this summer.

Volde....I'll hold him down.

I certainly didn't think he was, but saying that you're "dreaming" of a large inheritance with which to buy a bike definitely comes across as kinda morbid in a sleazy way.
