Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Which 08 Cannondale ?

I'm looking to buy an 08 Cannondale for sprint/olympic triathlons in the UK and have decided on one of:

Caad9 105 (£849)
Synapse carbon 105 (£999)
six13 105 (£1099)

I've got a slightly twingy back - which may point to the Synapse (comfiest), but the Caad9 is a really good deal and may be the fastest. Has anyone ridden all three ???

I've ridden two of them, but up and down the block :/ It's really personal preference. Do your research, test ride, sizes, then work your way down to paint jobs, components, weight, etc.

If you are going to do TTs and triathlons, why not get a TT frame?

CAAD9 - yes.
Synapse - yes.
Six13 - yes.

I have a CAAD8, and not much of an inkling to race, so I sometimes feel that I would've done better with either a Synapse or Six13. Then I go fast or push through a climb and remember that the CAAD8 rocks.

Hope this helps.

Caad9 seems unanimous

Seems like the consensus is to go for the Caad9. Handy - it's the cheapest.

I didn't fancy getting a tri bike just yet because I wanted an all-rounder. The only advice I'd received so far was that the Caad9 is a little harsh.

I need to try them - I'l let you know how it goes.

Thanks for the advice.

If it was me it would go
Six 13
CAAD9
Synapse

Since you have back issues get the Synapse, it's a fine bike regardless of it's "comfy" geomettry.

FWIW, I took a Six13 out for a spin one day (the girl at the shop sent me on my way, somehow forgetting that it was actually a customer's bike that had just gotten tuned up... no wonder it shifted beautifully, and thank goodness I didn't dump it!). It was a very, very nice bike, smoother than my CAAD8 and just as fast.

Get the CAAD and some clip-ons for the tris. I placed in the top 20-30% of quite a few tris in the bike portion with this setup. Now if I could swim and run..........

CAAD8 for 4 years now, love it. Haven't seen anything under $3,500 that I think would be an upgrade framewise.

Isn't the geometry the same on all three of these bikes?

Get the CAAD - it is perfection in aluminum. You can get more expensive bikes, but they aren't going to be any better.

Don't get sold that the other frames are better just because they are carbon.....

Test rode the CAAD and Synapse carbon. As well as Felt, Trek and Specialized equivalents. The Synapse just fit best for me, and haven't regretted it at all.
