Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

SRAM Red shifter throw vs Shimano Ultegra

How far is the throw on SRAM Red shifters for downshifting the rear derailleur relative to that of the Ultegra 6600? Do you have to push it much further?

Also, is it true that with SRAM when you reach the lowest gear and try shifting again you'll actually upshift? I don't always count gears, so on some of the harder hills I bank on the feedback of the Ultegra shifter to let me know I'm in the lowest gear.
