Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bottom Bracket Help

I'm trying to put a new bottom bracket into an older Puch frame that I grabbed off craigslist, so I bought this bottom bracket: (Truvatic LE Squ. Taper).

https://bikeparts.com/search_results.asp?ID=BPC322194

Upon trying to install it, however, I discovered that the threads would engage, but would bind and not go in all the way. I didn't want to force it and strip out the frame, so I only hand-tightened them until they stuck. Any suggestions on what's causing this or what kind of bottom bracket I need? Am I doing something stupid wrong, or are the threads different? I checked Sheldon Brown, and the description matches what would happen with a Raleigh - English threading, but that seems unlikely. Help!

I had a bottom bracket problem with my mid 1960s Bergmeister and had it rethreaded to 1.37 x 24.
