Depression hurts...

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

You're still with her? You have nothing to be worried about. My girlfriend of 4 years and I just broke up - that's depression!

Seriously though, we were long distance for 2/4 years and everything went fine. You appreciate the time you spend together even more! Just view this as a good thing and you'll be fine.

Yo, I suffered from clinical depression. You're definitely not there yet.

Just call her a lot. Never text, and email occasionally, but make friends with the phone.

Just be thankful you get to be in love, not everyone is so lucky. <Eleanor Rigby plays in background.>

Move to California, tell your doctor you are having trouble sleeping, and as said earlier in the thread, spark up a troasty bowl.

Ohh and if you were really depressed, you probably wouldn't be posting on bikeforums. You'd be making plans to kill yourself and what not.

If you even think it may be actual depression and you are not simply using hyperbole, then go to the doctor.

And never do any sort of drug if that's the case; that's the worst possible idea, ever.

There's a psych diagnosis of clinical depression and the colloquial term people have been using for much, much longer. C'mon people. Do I have to explain that "gay" has a couple of meanings, as well?

If you believe you are suffering from depression, see a psychiatrist. Don't ask fellow bike riders for advice on how to treat mental illness.

Sheesh. Your GF is out of town and you're depressed? What's with all this EMO crap? Get over it! She'll be back in time.

Go ride or something.

Maybe it's not depression but you sound depressed. I had a serious relationship end once and I was depressed too. The cure is time. While you're waiting for time to pass, get busy. It will take your mind off your problem - maybe only for brief moments, but it's better than nothing. When I was depressed, volleyball took my mind off it. Bicycling would be a great distraction too, especially if you ride with other people and talk to them. Plus, endorphins are good for whatever ails you.

But his relationship didn't end. She just went out of town for a little while ... really, a very short time. And she didn't even go that far! She's only 1/2 a continent away ... he could cycle there in a few days, or catch a cheap flight if he wanted to get their faster. He could go see her every other weekend if he wanted. It's not like she's on the other side of the world where it's impossible to cycle to, and where "cheap flights" would cost $2000.

A friend of mine went to se a Doc one time and told him he was feeling depressed and asked if he could proscribe something. The Doc said: “Buy a bike and ride, or I can give you a pill. They both do the same thing”.

That’s why I have calluses on my A^%!
