Mt. Doom

I keep ranting about this hill I live on, so I figured I'd do a photo documentary. To review: 1 mile long, 370 vertical feet. Here's what it looks like from the approach, my house is at the top of the wooded hill on the left.

The first grade is about 3/10 of a mile, averages about 8%:

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y11...tmofBlkMdw.jpg

Then a brief 13% grade into the development:

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y11...mofOdyssey.jpg

Then a 3-5% respite after you first enter the subdivision (excuse the cheesy Pshop work):

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y11...ofDvlpment.jpg

Then the longest steep section, 200 meters @ 15% (curves around, hard to photograph):

The last section is 14-17%, about 150 meters or so:

What do you get for all that? Sore legs and nice views from Casa CAD:

When you ride with me, you'll be in your Compact Triple 34 x 32 and calling Mommy on your iPhone.

botero. 09-24-08 06:09 PM

mattm 09-24-08 06:10 PM

ilvwhtgrls 09-24-08 06:10 PM

When I meet you, I will have a man to man talk with you and act like I know what I'm doing. Then after you take my daughter to the movies I will hit my knees and pray she remains a virgin for another day.

Wow, Casa Cad is pretty nice. Good hill too, nothing like that around here.

mazdaspeed 09-24-08 06:19 PM

Nice hill. Not too long but long enough to get a work out [that's what she said]. That's fairly mild for where I live, my commute to class is 2.2 miles and is similar but with steeper segments thrown in.

I never understand people who have to have that "perfect yard"

Don't be fooled. My perfect lawn is full of Sammy Land Mines:

Why do you think it's so friggin green?

He already mentioned photoshop in the post, I'm saying he pumped the green and saturation way up on that section ;)

There is no training value to that stupid hill. None. The only advantage is the views and the privacy. Whacks the fuel economy on the cars, hard to get up and down when we have icy roads, pain in the ass on the bike. But I actually kind of like it. Gives me something else to whine about on BF.

Actually, if you ride any hill 1,000+ times, you do get used to it. I'm used to it. Every day.

Because you water it, fertilize it, and have professional take care of it.

I have a dog as well. I can assure you that my grass has never been that green.

Casa CAD. We've been here 11+ years. Bought the house brand new. Still love it here.

That's my assistant's very cool Triumph that is a dead knockoff of a 1974 Triumph, except his actually starts every morning. It's a 2007 model. I have a 2004 Honda ST1300A. I shoot hoops for laughs. Which is why I race bikes. It's not for the prize money, that's for sure.

botero. 09-24-08 06:40 PM

pool?, hot tub? tell your daughter and her girlfriends to get in and take some pictures please.

patentcad 09-24-08 06:40 PM

No pool. The only hot tub we have is the jacuzzi tub in our bathroom.

To you, maybe. :(

botero. 09-24-08 06:44 PM

looks like a nice place to ride.

mrbubbles 09-24-08 06:45 PM

Vinyl siding or wood siding?

patentcad 09-24-08 06:45 PM

The cycling here is outstanding. Always hilly, sometimes windy, but outstanding.
