I met quite the character on my Saturday ride. He pulled up just as I and She Who Must Be Obeyed were getting ready to head out. 80+ years old, been riding the same Ross mtb. for over 20 years. Picking up cans by the side of the road all that time earned him over $75,000. Claimed to have over 150,000 miles on the bike.

No - I wanted a quality bike. I don't equate Taiwan with quality, and I didn't want a faux Italian bike made in Taiwan, either fo same quality issues. And I was concerned about the quality of paint on Italian bikes these days. I wanted quality. That's not smug that's spending money wisely.

Have you had the chance to ride some of the same routes you rode on older bikes? If so, how do your speeds compare?

Come on you guys...lets lighten up a bit. Doc bringing up the guy in the lobby was just an excuse to show off his cool bike. tho Doc wouldn't admit that. That is untill you ride your road bike.....or if you ride your track bike, then you are a hipster. Or your beater 10 speed, then you have a DUI or are homeless. If you ride your MTB you need to have dreadlocks and smoke weed. If you buy a quality headlight that runs as long as you really need, you are a light geek.

But whatever--I'm used to it. If you're really that self-righteous that you can't laugh at someone looking at a decal-ridden bike and asking who makes it, then I have nothing to help you.
And yeah, it's what I do for a living, and there are plenty of other M.D.'s with Dr (or some version thereof) in their names on BF. Really, the fact that you waste energy worrying about someone else's username says far more about you than about me...
